English key competencies promotes the development of English education and provides new opportunities and challenges for the reform of education.How to cultivate students' English key competencies better has become a hot topic.It is of great significance to study the current situation of English key competencies of teachers and students for the problem.This research is to study the current situation of English key competencies of students in primary school,explore the factors that affect the development of students' key competencies,and then put forward some suggestions.In order to achieve that,this research focuses on three research questions:1.What is the current situation of students' English key competencies in primary school?2.What factors affect the development of students' English key competencies in primary school?3.How do teachers cultivate students' English key competencies in primary school?Based on the constructivism theory and humanism theory,the author adopts the methods of questionnaire,interview and classroom observation to study 40 English teachers and 400 students from 8 schools in primary school.The purpose of the research is to explore the current situation and identify the existing problems and influencing factors of the cultivation of English key competencies in primary school.Then the research aims to propose effective ways and provide reference for cultivating English key competencies in primary school.The results are as following.First of all,the development of the four aspects of primary school students' English key competencies are unbalanced.Students' language competencies is good,but their thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning competencies are poor.Secondly,the strategies and methods to cultivate the key competencies in primary school are still inappropriate although most teachers agree with the benefits of English key competencies.Finally,the current situation ofEnglish key competencies in primary school is affected by many factors.The teaching theories and ideas of English teachers are not updated in time.Some teachers' teaching methods are still outdated and they cannot innovate teaching methods to adapt to the knowledge structure of students under the background of information society.The teaching evaluation of teachers is relatively single,which can not achieve the diversified teaching evaluation combining teacher-student evaluation,student evaluation and self-evaluation.Therefore,this research puts forward some suggestions for the cultivation of English key competencies of students in primary school.Students should learn certain learning methods and strategies,use learning resources,and exercise their learning abilities.Teachers should improve their professional quality,change their teaching concepts and methods,strengthen the understanding of English key competencies so as to cultivate students' key competencies.Schools should organize more discussion,exchange activities and teacher training activities related to key competencies.There are still some deficiencies in the research,such as short research period and few research samples,which will be improved in the future research.
