Subject core competencies reflect the education value of the subject.It refers to the correct values,essential qualities and key competencies that students gradually form through subject learning.English subject core competencies are made up of linguistic competence,cultural disposition,thinking quality and learning ability(New English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School,2017).At present,the English subject core competencies framework has regarded learning ability as the core competence of English subject core competencies.Learning ability affects the speed and quality of students' acquisition of knowledge and skills and is an important ability for students to grow and develop,which has profound significance on students' sustainable development.Considering the importance of learning ability in English subject core competencies,the author attempts to improve students' learning ability by integrating English subject core competencies with English teaching.This research takes two classes taught by the author in Senior Middle School of Puxian,Linfen as the research subjects and uses the instruments of questionnaire and interview to verify its effect.According to the specific requirements of learning ability in the New English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017),learning ability is defined as application of learning strategies,selection of learning channels,improvement of learning efficiency and requirement of learning attitude(Xia,2018).Therefore,the author attempts to verify its influence on students' learning ability by answering the following three questions.1.How does English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies affect the meta-cognitive strategies use of senior middle school students? 2.How does English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies affect senior middle school students' use of cognitive strategies? 3.How does English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies affect senior middle school students' learning motivation and interest?By this research,the author draws the following conclusions: First,the English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies has different degrees of influence on the three aspects of students' learning ability,among which the greatest effect is on meta-cognitive strategies.Second,the English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies increases the use of meta-cognitive strategies and the eight sub-strategies of meta-cognitive strategies have been improved after the teaching experiment,especially the strategy of effective planning.Third,the English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies increases the frequency of using cognitive strategies,especially the organization strategy.Fourth,the English teaching integrated with English subject core competencies stimulates students' learning motivation and interest.It has different effects on students' internal motivation,external motivation and learning interest,among which the most significant influence is on learning interest.In order to enrich the English teaching practice integrated with English subject core competencies,the author puts forward the following suggestions: a.As English teachers in the new era,they should be strict with themselves and constantly deepen the theoretical learning of English subject core competencies.b.Teachers as the organizer of classroom teaching needs to follow two important principles--reconstruct the classroom from the perspective of life and change teaching mode with teaching design.c.The setting of teaching objectives should focus on the development objectives of the four elements of English subject core competencies in the New English Curriculum Standard(2017).d.The design of teaching activities should aim at promoting the development of students' English subject core competencies.
