In the late Qing Dynasty, there was a change in China's millennium history. This change has both the dispute between China and the West.It is also the change of the past and the present. The history of Chinese calligraphy began with the popularity of calligraphy in the Wei,Jin,and Southern Dynasties, developed prosperously in the Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties. The style of Xizhi Wang and Xianzhi Wang had occupied the core position of Chinese calligraphy. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, after the radical calligraphy reforms led by Hao Wang and Shan Fu,the Jinshi intellectuals of Qianjia began to study Stele calligraphy. With the advocacy of Shichen Bao and Yuan Qian,as well as Youwei Kang who was in the late Qing Dynasty,Stele calligraphy influenced Chinese calligraphy strongly and greatly.Couplet is a unique form of Chinese culture that best represents the characteristics of Chinese language. The development of the couplet to the Qing Dynasty had become an indispensable part of the daily life of bureaucrats and scholars. The couplet was hung on temples, gardens, and halls. Its two-faced relative form, its ornamental, open, and ceremonial, was completely different from the traditional playfulness and privacy. Its creation had own standards:not only the font size was large, the font was straight, but also had a certain visual impact. These requirements were in line with the main ideas of the Stele calligraphy. The monuments of Stele calligraphy in the late Qing Dynasty became a spiritual symbol of the cultural transformation in the late Qing Dynasty.Under the guidance of the retrospective thinking of the couplet calligraphy of Stele style,There were many changes in terms of viewing methods, methods of taking methods, aesthetic styles, writing methods, and creative mindsets. From the point of view of the writing-book to the far view of Stele calligraphy, from taking the Two Wang to taking the Han Stele,Wei Stele, and the pre-Qin seal, from the writing-book style to Jinshi style, from the smoothness to the reversal, from the vertical, the timeliness of pursuing the sense of rhythm to the spatiality of the form of the glyph itself, the pursuit of art and individuality, made the couplet style of Stele calligraphy reborn, surpassing the writing-book style and the Guange style, which was refreshing. This change was an all-round transformation from thought to form.Just like the revolutions of Western science,it was a paradigm shift,a microcosm and symbol of the social and cultural paradigm shift in the late Qing Dynasty. The paradigm shift of Stele calligraphy in the late Qing Dynasty has always influenced today's exhibition model. It has brought new opportunities for the development of calligraphy, but also brought new problems and new challenges.
