In the period of Wei,Jin and southern and Northern Dynasties,the calligraphy style of Wei steles inherited from Han and Jin Dynasties,and started from Tang and Song dynasties.The overall style of calligraphy art is diversified,with simple,precipitous and natural artistic characteristics,which provides reference and important influence for the formation of the font structure of regular script in Sui and Tang Dynasties.In the following thousand years,people have been known as the supreme with the calligraphy style and works of "two kings".Scholars in the Qing Dynasty began to pay attention to the textual research of inscriptions and stones,sorting out and studying the traditional culture of ancient books,which set off an upsurge of inscriptions and stones in the field of calligraphy.Ruan Yuan,Bao Shichen and others advocated learning from Beibei stele in Qianlong and Jiaqing period,which started the trend of thought of "respect and inferiority restraining calligraphy".Until the late Qing Dynasty,Kang Youwei formally established the "Stele Study" and pushed the thought of "respecting steles and restraining calligraphy" to the climax.Wei stele disappeared for a thousand years from the late peak of the Northern Wei Dynasty,and it was not until the late Qing Dynasty that it was really valued and respected by people.The revival of Wei stele provides a particularly important creative idea and practical experience for contemporary calligraphers to seek new calligraphy style,new aesthetic requirements and new calligraphy style changes.This paper mainly takes the stele of Zhang Menglong as an example,through the collection of historical books,calligraphy history,books on the stele of Zhang Menglong,expounds the historical changes of the stele of Zhang Menglong from the northern and Southern Dynasties to the Qing Dynasty,the historical status of the stele,the form of the stele,the situation of the calligrapher’s practice,and people’s evaluation and learning of the stele.In the late Qing Dynasty,the stele of Zhang Menglong was evaluated as "the first stele of Wei Dynasty".This paper mainly analyzes the specific performance of the rise of the stele of Zhang Menglong in the late Qing Dynasty from the aspects of representative figures,school disputes,rubbings spread,Calligraphers’ teaching methods and so on.This paper demonstrates the social factors of the rise of the stele of Zhang Menglong,and concludes that the rise of the stele of Zhang Menglong is the product of a specific period,with complete literature and the change of writing carrier,and analyzes its calligraphy aesthetic value.
