The Arabic and Chinese languages differ a lot in their vocabulary, grammar and expressing habits. Therefore, native Arabic interpreters are easily disturbed by negative transfer when interpreting from Arabic to Chinese.Negative transfer causes some obscure and complicated expressions in the target language.Based on a case study at a mock conference of Egyptian President Al-Sisi's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of“World Youth Forum 2017 in Egypt for Young Leaders”,this thesis will analyze the negative transfer phenomenon in consecutive interpretation from Arabic to Chinese through the comparing and reflecting the original speech to the transcribed interpretation. This thesis combines previous studies on negative transfer in linguistics and interpretation with the author's case to explore the negative transfer in terms of vocabulary, grammar, and expressing habits. This paper is a preliminary study on the influence of negative transfer in consecutive interpretation from Arabic to Chinese and its countermeasures. This study can be used later on as a reference for practicing interpretation as it will be an inspiration for other systematic studies of negative transfer in Arabic-Chinese consecutive interpretation.
