The Great Gatsby was considered one of the finest works of F.Scott Fitzgerald. The book unveils the devastation of the?Jazz Age?as makes a consummate summary of the?roaring twenties?.This novel was selected by the American academic circles as the Top 2 among the 100 best novels in the 100-year history of English literature. Its importance has been valued by all scholars over the world.Chinese scholars‘ research on this novel mostly focuses on its literary value or translation.Few scholars will analyze it from postcolonialism and other cultural and political aspects. The postcolonial translation theory began in late 90s 20th century, combining translation with policy and culture. It greatly enriched the translation system, and made translation jump out of a single level, and stood on a more macroscopic level culture and policy. In the past, the postcolonial translation theory is western-centered,views the rest of western world as the?Other?,including East countries and other developing countries and areas. It distorts the real eastern world. This study, under the premise that views China as the?Self?and looks the other countries regions outside China as the?Other?,guiding by the postcolonial translation theory, through case analysis, comparison and description, etc.,to discuss the class, ethnicity, feminism, self and other perspectives, and to explore how translators face and deal with the?Other?factor. The purpose of this study is to analyze the manifestation of postcolonialism in translation, and to examine the relationship between China‘s?Self?and the external world‘s?Other?.This study concludes that any theory has its merits and limitations;it is necessary to analyze the problems in combination with national conditions, times, realistic background and theory so that to understand the problems and solve problems more comprehensively. This study improves the postcolonial translation theory and translation system. Is also provides an important reference for the equal exchange of Eastern and western cultures and globalization.
