This paper is a practical report on the principles and methods of Chinese translation of the language features of maritime historical documents, taking Survivors:British Merchant Seamen in the Second World War(Chapter 3)as an example. There are two aspects to be considered in the translation of maritime historical documents:(1)the linguistic rigor and narrative of historical documents,and(2)the translation of specialized maritime terms. When the author translated the book Survivors:British Merchant Seamen in the Second World War,she found it was not easy to understand British history written in English from the perspective of Chinese people's thinking,so it was necessary to correctly convey these historical facts with Chinese people's thinking. The author carefully studied professor Lu Guoqiang's thinking mode research, from this perspective,to explore the mystery of English and Chinese language thinking mode, and to use various specific translation strategies to accurately and objectively convey historical facts. In the application of specific translation methods, the author adopts five practical translation methods:from the concept structure of the lexical level to the syntactic level respectively. In the lexical transformation, the method of amplification and omission and conversion of word characteristic are applied. In the syntactic transformation, the method of splitting and combination translation, the method of inversion and the method of conversion at the voice level are applied. The author always keeps in mind the thinking mode of Chinese readers, emphasizes the importance of transformation of thinking mode, and transmits historical events with Chinese thinking.Only in this way can the articles of the subject of translating historical documents accurately and vividly elaborate facts and convey emotions. In the end,the author hopes that this paper will play a reference role in the study of historical literature translation in the maritime field.
