With the rapid development of science and technology and economic globalization,companies and patent inventors in various countries have paid more attention to intellectual property rights.A large number of patent applicants in China apply for international patents every year,which has led to a large number of patent translation companies to set up.The author worked in Hebei Lingying Translation Service Co.,Ltd.from October 2018 to March 2019 and aquired lots of valuable translation materials during the intership.The materials mainly related to medicine,food,chemistry,transportation,telecommunications and architecture,all these involving various professional vocabulary.And it was necessary for author to inquire and master a certain amount of professional knowledge,as well as translation requirements and standards.The report summarizes the hardware equipment,data and texts required for terminology selection in patent abstract translation and the translation techniques.The author has assimilated the Skopos Theory and related translation strategies,chosen a large number of translation cases,and used the translation strategy of Domestication and Foreignization under the guidance of Skopos Theory to analyze the application of patent terminology in cases.Through the analysis and summary of the report,the author had found the translation method of Domestication and Foreignization can be adopted in the Chinese-English translation of patents in most cases,especially in the cases of medicine.Domestication is more widely used in the Chinese-English translation of medicine effects,while Foreignization is mostly used in Chinses medicine and food related terminology.The author aims to help other translators to improve the accuracy and rigor of the terminology selection of patent abstract translation by explaining the translating method and strategy.
