Gora is a critical realist novel written by Tagore that celebrates the Indian people's opposition to colonial oppression and love for the motherland.Gora is Tagore's most representative novel and the only novel in Bangladesh that truly reflects the social,political and cultural life of the educated middle class in Bangladesh.The novel revolves around the hero,Gora and tells the whole process of the hero's self-identification.This paper focuses on the female images in the novel and shows the formation and evolution of Tagore's female thoughts through the analysis of female images.By combing through the main female images in the novel,women can be roughly divided into three categories: traditional Indian female images,educated western female images and ideal female images and further discussed the different personality characteristics of these three types of women,as well as the author's contradictory view of women hidden behind.The first part of this article introduces the traditional woman Halimosthenes.In this part mainly reflects the persecution of Indian women by introducing the life experience of Halimosthene in the Indian society and the author's dissatisfaction and criticism of the traditional marriage system in India.This part analyzes the fundamental reasons for the existence of these systems in combination with the Indian society and culture.The second part introduces two new women who received western education,Lolita and Sucharita.They were all representatives of the new Indian women,but there were still big differences in their personalities.The Lolita were brave and determined,while Sucharita was intellectual and generous.They all contribute to the central character of the novel.With their help,Gora learns who she is,and Binoy finds the love of her life.In addition to analyzing the advantages of the two characters,this paper further analyzes the shortcomings of the new female characters.The third part introduces the author's ideal female image Anandamoyi.The author's universal philosophy is embodied in this woman,who is the mentor and common mother of the young people in the novel.She was humanitarian.She was the embodiment offreedom.In this part,it mainly discusses the author's imagination of the ideal woman,and analyzes the personality characteristics reflected by the ideal woman through typical examples,as well as the author's attitude and views on social issues.In this paper compares Anandamoyi and Halimosthenes to explain the huge gap between two people who share the same traditional Indian qualities.Finally,the article also analyzes the Tagore's growing experience,family environment,education background and social environment influence on Tagore himself a viewpoint,and shows the author's life experience is how to affect the creation of the characters in the novel,concretely analyzes the tagore unknown inner world in the novel,as well as his women thought the root cause of the contradiction.
