The Comparative Study About Word-formation Cognition Of Compound Verb In Japanese And Chinese

In Japanese and Chinese,the proportion of compound verb is very large.Accordi ng to the statistics of NINJAL,There are 7500 compound verbs in Japanese.Accord ing to the statistics of the computer department of Tsinghua University,Chinese co mpound verb among Chinese compound words is 36.4%.In the previous studies of Japanese compound verbs,the semantic relationship between the former verb and t he latter verb is quite a lot,and the study of the process of the composition of th e compound verbs from the cognitive perspective is very few.In previous studies o f Chinese compound verbs,the orientated research of certain compound verbs and t he quantitative study of corpus are the major ones.The Comparative Study of Compound Verb in Japanese and Chinese is very few.In the 1980s,cognitive linguistics developed rapidly,and the Conceptual Blending Theory provided a new perspective and method for us to explain the formation pro cess of compound verbs.From the cognitive linguistics perspective of Conceptual Blending Theory,this pa per analyzes the integration process of the former elements and the latter elements of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs by means of examples,comparative a nalysis and model construction.This paper first define the following 2 questions:(1)the redefinition of the range of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs(2)the classification of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs This paper mainly solv es the following questions.(1)the integration of the former element and the latter elements of compound verbs in Japanese and Chinese(2)the generality and indivi duality of the concept integration of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs.On the basis of previous studies,the scope of the compound verb is defined.It i s considered that the two elements of word formation can be used as an independe nt word,which can be used as verbs,nouns or adjectives.In this paper,Japanese and Chinese compound verbs are divided into three categories.The Japanese compo und verbs are divided into "V1+V2","N+V" and "A+V",and the Chinese compoun d verbs are divided into "V1+V2","V+N" and "A+V".The results show that the concept integration of the Japanese and Chinese compo und verbs has the following commonalities.(1)Mental Space is the medium of hu man categorization and thinking,and the formation of the Japanese and Chinese co mpound verbs are realized through the mapping of mental space.(2)The realization of the integration of the two concepts requires the cooperation of different cogniti ve domains,not only the mapping between the mental space of former elements an d the latter elements,but also the background support of the encyclopedia knowled ge and the cognitive experience.(3)There are different types of conceptual blendin g networks in Japanese and Chinese,some of which are complex and some of whi ch are simple.(4)The change of parts of speech does not affect the integration me chanism of Japanese and Chinese compound verbs,but it will affect the type of co nceptual blending network.(5)There are semantic relations between former element s and the latter elements of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs,such as "ju xtaposition,predicate and complement",which provides a logical premise for the co mbination of compound verbs.Of course,there are also the following differences in the conceptual blending pat h of the Japanese and Chinese compound verbs.(1)About V1+V2 compound verb,the Japanese compound verb has simplex network,but it does not exist in Chines e.(2)About V+N/N+V compound verb,although the conceptual blending types of t he Japanese and Chinese compound verbs are simplex network,the mapping directi on is different.(3)About A+V compound verbs,the conceptual blending network o f Japanese is single-scope network,but Chinese is a simple network.Language is the product of human cognition of reality.A compound verb is a co gnitive framework.By comparing word-formation cognition of compound verb in Ja panese and Chinese,the Chinese and Japanese people in different cognitive thinking can made clearly.In addition,the compound verb is one of the difficulties in the two language acquisition.The research from the cognitive perspective is an essential study.Therefore,it can help the learners of Japanese and Chinese to understand a nd master the compound verbs better.
