President Franklin Roosevelt has an important influence on the developmental course of Jews in the United States.Note that American Jews entered the mainstream society from marginal groups during this period. However, there is lacked of systematic research on the development of American Jews during President Roosevelt's administration.Through tracing back the development history of American Jews, this paper discusses the historical opportunities of American Jews during the period and unearths the intrinsic link between President Roosevelt and the rise of American Jewish influence. The organization of this paper is as follows. In the first chapter,we trace the historical background of the Jews entering the United States, and examine the economic life and public life of American Jews before Roosevelt's reign. In the second chapter,we comb the historical origins of Franklin Roosevelt and American Jews.In the third chapter,we elaborate the policies issued during President Roosevelt's administration and analyze that how these policies help American Jews escaped poverty and discrimination successfully. In the fourth chapter,we investigate the improvement of American Jews influence in politics, economy and public life in the United States after the end of the Roosevelt era.Through a comprehensive analysis of the developmental course of American Jews in the United States,we find that American Jews were difficult to integrate into the mainstream society of the United States for a long time, due to the “inequality of origin” in the development of American capitalism and institutional discrimination. For examples, the vested interest groups held the main resources of the society and the distribution of social wealth was unfair. Therefore,American Jews were on the verge of mainstream American society before President Roosevelt's administration. And President Roosevelt reformed some unfair policies in the development of American society which gave American Jews the starting point of "equal opportunity",so that President Roosevelt's reign is a period of rapid development of American Jews.President Roosevelt reformed the US market economy, deeply involved in the economic life of the United States through state monopoly capitalism and pushed the redistribution of original social interests which took the majority of the middle and lower social groups into account.Under this ruling idea, the introduced social security bill, the popularization and commonweal of higher education, and the rectification of child labor issues provided American Jews a rare opportunity for development. After the Roosevelt era, many poor American Jews in the United States moved from the bottom of the society to the upper middle class, and ethnic inequality was contained. However,we also should be soberly aware that this is only the transition of the vulnerable ethnic groups from the state of discrimination to normal state. And the exaggerative influence of American Jews that they controlled the United States does not appear.
