A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of The Cohesive Devices In Financial Stability Review

As a typical financial English text,Financial Stability Review has the characteristics of outstanding logic and strong professionalism.The sentence structure of the text is relatively complex,in which cohesive devices are frequently used.Therefore,whether the cohesive devices can be properly handled in the translation process directly affects the quality of the translation.Based on the practice of Financial Stability Review and Halliday and Hasan's discourse cohesion theory,the author sums up the main types of cohesive devices in the text:reference,substitution,ellipsis and conjunction,and analyzes the translation methods for different types of cohesive devices,such as retention,repetition,supplement and omission,etc.As cohesive devices are frequently used in English,in the process of translation,appropriate translation strategies should be adopted to make the translation smooth and consistent with the expression habits of the target language.The purpose of this report is to provide reference for the translation practice of similar texts by exploring and summarizing the translation methods of cohesive devices in financial texts.
