Bian Cheng is a masterpiece of Shen Congwen's novels. It is an excellent novel in the history of Chinese literature and features the unique style of lyric poetry, depicting the unique customs of the Xiangxi region. With its unique artistic charm and vivid local flavor,it has attracted many readers at home and abroad, and has also established a special status in the history of modern Chinese literature. The study of English versions of Bian Cheng is conducive to Chinese culture going out. However, most of the studies on Bian Cheng focus on translation aesthetics, linguistics, relevance theory and other translation theories.Few studies pay attention to sociological perspective. After linguistic turn and cultural turn,Bourdieu's sociology,as a new paradigm of translation studies,is gradually being applied to translation studies to interpret and analyze translators' behavior.Based on Bourdieu's sociology, this paper delineate the relationship among the three core concepts, namely, field, capital and habitus. The translator's habitus, like an intermediary,is influenced by the field and capital, and the formed habitus will affect the translator' specific translation activities. To be specific, from the macro level, this thesis analyzes various fields in which two translators were situated,i.e.power field, literature field and translation field, and analyzes the cultural capital and symbolic capital two translators possessed, combined with the two translators' life trajectories, this thesis summarizes that Gladys Yang's and Jefrrey C.Kinkley developed intercultural habitus and professional habitus respectively. From the micro level, based on the text, this paper combines qualitative method with quantitative method to explore the influences of different translators' habitus on the translation style and translation strategies. To be specific, quantitative analysis results show that Gladys Yang focused more on the readability of the translation.Jefrrey C.Kinkley paid more attention to the academic aspect of the translation. The qualitative results show that Gladys Yang was mainly influenced by political field, soshe failed to fully render the source text, especially some politically-related terms.Besides, she mainly employed domestication, free translation and footnotes to enhance communication.Compared with Gladys Yang,Jefrrey C.Kinkley fully rendered the source text.He employed forgnization and a large number of endnotes to retain the culture and exotic flavor as much as possible.
