On January 1,2019,Israel officially leave UNESCO,the educational, scientific and cultural body of the United Nations system.Over the years Israel complaint about UNESCO's being prejudiced against the Jewish State and pro-Palestinian.Of all the topics on which they did not see each other eye-to-eye,archaeology is the one aspect that produces endless conflicts between the two.Israeli archaeology has long been criticized by the international community, due to its controversial excavating actions.Israeli archaeology is believe to be strongly influenced by the political ideology of Zionism, serving the nationalist purpose of connecting the new State of Israel to the old land of Palestine, and justifying the establishment of Israel.Controversial Israeli archaeological practices include discriminating treatments of non-Jewish artifacts and controlling Palestinian land in the name of archaeological studies.According to International law,UNESCO does not recognize Israeli rule over the Palestinian territories, nor its archaeological excavations.Over Israel's time in the organization,UNESCO has constantly denounced illegal Israeli archaeological activities, mostly in Jerusalem and it Old City.Israel take the disapproval of UNESCO as hostility and unfair treatment. There are a number of reasons for Israel's exit decision, with archaeological excavations constantly under attack from UNESCO being one of them.F eud between Israel and UNESCO related to Israeli archaeology should be placed in the context of Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. This dissertation is a study of the development of the relation between Israel and UNESO,as well as an analysis of causes of their conflicts.
