With the rapid development of the Internet and the popularity of mobile devices, the emergence of social networking sites provides another important place for people to socialize. The data report released by China Internet network information center(CNNIC)in December 2018,shows that WeChat moments and Qzone are people's favorate social networking sites, and these two social networking sites users have respectively reached 83.4% and 58.8% of all the Internet users in China,in which teenagers have a higher proportion.Although the emergence of social networking sites has provided great convenience for the connection of relationships, due to its strong user stickiness, users frequently log on social networking sites may lead to problematic use of social networking sites and other adverse phenomenon.Previous studies on the factors affecting the use of problematic social networking sites have mainly explored personality traits, stress, cognition, mental health, psychological motivation and culture, but the conclusions have not yet been agreed. For example, the impact of shyness on the problematic social networking sites usage. Objective: In order to investigate the status quo of shyness, fear of missing out,self-control and the problematic social networking sites usage of junior and senior high school students, and explore whether there are other underlying mechanism between shyness and problematic social networking sites usage. Methods: 1238 junior and senior high school students from three full-time schools in Linfen who were invited to complete the questionaires about shyness, fear of missing out, selfcontrol and problematic social networking sites usage. The data processing was accomplished by SPSS 20.0.Results:(1)There was a significant grade difference for the self-control ability of junior and senior high school students.Among them, the self-control ability of senior high school students is generally significantly worse than that of junior high school students;there was a significant origin difference for shyness in junior and senior high school students.Among them, compared with students from urban areas, the shyness level of students from rural areas is significantly higher, and there was an obvious origin difference for the self-control ability of junior and senior high school students. To be specific, the self-control ability of students from urban areas is significantly better than that of students from rural areas;there was a significant only child difference for shyness of junior and senior high school students.among which the shyness level of non-only children is significantly higher than that of only children.(2)Shyness was positively correlated with missed fear and problematic social network sites usage, and negatively correlated with self-control;there was a significant negative correlation between the fear of missing and self-control,and a significant positive correlation with the problematic social network sites usage; There was a significant negative correlation between self-control and problematic social network sites usage.(3)after controlling for gender, age and grade, shyness not only has a direct predictive effect on the use of problematic social networking sites, but also has an indirect effect on the use of problematic social networking sites through the effect of missing fear;(4)Self-control moderated the mediation effect of fear of missing out on the relationship between shyness and problematic use of social networking sites.Specifically, the indirect effect is more significant in individuals with poor self-control than in those with good self-control;(5)Gender can moderate the relationship between shyness and fear of missing out, that is,compared with males, the mediating effect of fear of missing out was stronger in females. Conclusion: fear of missing out is partially mediating the effect of shyness on problematic social networking sites usage, which is moderated by self-control and gender. The results of this study are helpful to reveal the influence of shyness on the use of problematic social networking sites and its mechanism, and provide effective suggestions for the prevention and intervention of adolescents' use of problematic social networking sites.
