Depression has always attracted the attention of the public and researchers.Individuals who have been depressed for a long time are prone to suffer from psychological disorders such as depression.Depression can cause many losses and injuries to patients,their families and even the society.About % to % of the university students in our country have different degrees of depression.However,the mechanism of depression has not been fully elucidated,and more studies are needed on the prevention and intervention of depression.Researchers believe that openness is also closely related to people's physical and mental health,and found that it also has a certain relationship with depression.In addition,there are many studies on the effect of coping style on depression.In recent years,more and more attention has been paid to the role of cognition in emotional regulation.Researchers believe that the role of cognitive coping in emotional regulation,for example,cognitive emotion regulation strategies,should be investigated independently.Personality is an important factor influencing coping style.Openness is considered to be the most relevant personality dimension in the Big Five personality with cognition.Therefore,openness may be closely related to cognitive emotion regulation strategies,which may be the mediator of the relationship between openness and depression.However,there are few native studies on the openness.The studies on the relationship between the sub-dimension of openness and depression in China are fewer.This study explored the relationship between openness,sub-dimensions of openness,cognitive emotion regulation strategies and depression by means of quantitative research and qualitative interviews.At the same time,it explores the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the process that openness influencing depression.The openness subscale of Chinese version of Big Five Personality Scale revised by Dai Xiaoyang et al.in,self-rating depression scale andcognitive emotion regulation strategy questionnaire were used in the study.The study sample consisted of 607 college students in Shanghai.It can be concluded as follows.Firstly,students of different genders and majors have significant differences in scores of openness,cognitive emotion regulation strategies and depression;Secondly,openness can't predict depression.The reason is that some sub-dimension of openness predict depression positively,and others predict negatively.The cognitive emotion regulation strategies played mediating role in the process of openness predicting depression.This study enriches the local research of openness,reveals the influence of openness and cognitive emotion regulation strategies on depression at the sub-dimension level,and provides some reference for promoting the mental health of college students from different perspectives.
