Research On The Concept Field Of Clothing From The Northern And Southern Dynasties And Sui Dynastiy To Tang And The Five Dynasties

This paper takes the evolution of clothing words from Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty to the Tang and Five Dynasties as the research object based on the conceptual field theory.With the historical records,poetry and novels as the main research materials,the paper uses the synchronic and diachronic,quantitative and qualitative,inductive and analytical research methods to carefully and deeply investigate 598 clothing words in this period.According to the position of human dress,the 598 words are divided into three aspects: head dress,body dress and foot dress.By this classification,the paper can have a detailed description of clothing words in different dynasties,what's more,the paper examines the development and evolution of these words from a diachronic point of view,so as to summarize the characteristics about the concept field of clothing words,evolution law and analyze the causes for these changes.The abstract is arranged as follows:In the introduction part,the conceptual field theory is briefly summarized,and the relevant achievements of Chinese studies adopting this theory are introduced.This part introduces the research status of substantives in the academic circle,and focuses on the status of the "the words of things about clothing" in the academic circle.Based on the previous research results,the research put forward the research significance,content,objectives,methods,key points,difficulties and innovations.Chapter 1 mainly studies the conceptual field of clothing in Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty.From the synchronic perspective,it describes187 words of clothing in the south,among which 61 are head dress,104 are body dress and 22 are foot dress.There are 156 words of clothing in the north,including 49 words of head dress,89 words of body dress and 18 words of foot dress.Through comparative study,it is found that there are the same 70 clothing words in the South and the north.About different words,there are 117 words in the south,86 in the north.There are no such words as “Ju(?)”,”Boots(?)”,“Fei(?)” in the south,and no “shoes” in the north.At the same time,among the members in the conceptual field of North and South clothing,there are differences in functions and uses,except that the functions of official costumes remain unchanged and the distinctions are moredetailed.What's more,this chapter also analyzes the three main reasons for the differences in the words and expressions of clothing in the south and the north: the national integration,the regional differences between the north and the south,and the ideological and cultural differences.Chapter 2 mainly analyzes the conceptual field of clothing in the Tang and Five Dynasties,and describes 430 words of clothing in this period from the synchronic level,including 130 words of head dress,231 words of body dress and 69 words of foot dress.Chapter 3 mainly makes a comparative study about the clothing words between Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty and the Tang and Five Dynasties,in order to investigate the diachronic evolution of the concept field of clothing words in the other period from the diachronic perspective.Through comparison,it is found that there are the same 109 words in the two periods,that is,37 in the head dress,58 in the body dress and 14 in the foot dress.About different words in the two periods,there are 164 words in Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty and 321 words in the Tang and Five Dynasties.Besides,594 words produced from the southern and Northern Dynasties to the Tang and five dynasties present complex inheritance and evolution,which can be analyzed in 6 aspects: the words inherited from Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty,new words added in the Tang and Five Dynasties,words disappeared in the Tang and Five Dynasties,words with the same shape but meaning changed in the Tang and Five Dynasties,words of the same name but corresponding to different substances and the ability to form words.In the meantime,through comparison,it is found that the using frequency of some words is more distinctive.For example,“yi(?)”“guan(?)”“lv(?)”are high-frequency words in the two periods,while “jin(?)”“pao(?)”“qun(?)”“Boots(?)”“xie(?)”rise to high-frequency words from Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty to the Tang and Five Dynasties,besides,the using frequency of“ ? ” declines,only retained occasionally in the use of crown clothing,more commonly used to refer to full-length clothing,basically similar with the functions of clothing.Chapter 4 mainly discusses the characteristics and reasons of the diachronic evolution about the clothing conceptual field from Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty to the Tang and Five Dynasties.This chapter sums up the characteristics of the evolution of clothing words from seven perspectives: the stability of words,the systematic change of words,The national character of dress words,The openness and inclusiveness of clothing words,the replacement of high-frequency words,the different names of the same substances and the trend of polyphony.Besides,this chapter interprets the causes for the evolution of the conceptual field of clothing words from the external reasons(such as the evolution of system of carriage and clothing,the development of handicraft industry,the opening of cultural policy,The change of aesthetic thought)and the language internal reasons(such as the self-regulation mechanism of language and the demand for clarity of meaning).Clothing is an indispensable part of daily life since ancient times.The change of dress is reflected in the change of words.Thus,the core of discussing the change of words is to discuss the lexical change of the clothing concept,which is an important topic of the Chinese study.Based on the conceptual field theory,this paper discusses the diachronic evolution of clothing conceptual field from Northern and Southern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty to the Tang and Five Dynasties.Not only can it clearly show the situation of clothing conceptual field in different periods,but also provides an important reference for further research to explore and understand the evolution of the words about name and thing.
