The origin of ancient glass technology in China is very early. However, due to the imperfect development of glass technology and the prevalence of other types of craft products such as lacquerware and ceramics and so on,the production of ancient glassware in ancient China has not been able to occupy the mainstream position. Therefore, the focus on glass technology in the past is not as close as on bronze ware and porcelain, and the research on glassware is relatively not sufficient enough. However,in recent years, with the high focus on the cultural development of our country, the cultural exchange problem between China and foreign countries has attracted scholars’ attention, and it has been paid attention in the research of craft history. The spread of culture and crafts on the Silk Road has attracted widespread attention, especially the glass products that follow the"Silk Road" have attracted the attention of academics, and some scholars have proposed the concept of "the Glass Road".China’s glass technology has been developed to a large extent by Western influences. No matter the glass beads of the Spring and Autumn period and the glassware from the Wei and Jin Dynasties to Sui and Tang dynasties, all of them were to some extent by the influences of Western Europe,West Asia, and Central Asia. The glassware from Egypt,India,Rome, and Sassanian Persia and other places, were introduced in China through the grasslands silk road, desert silk road in the north and the maritime "silk road" in the south. And the glass technology was introduced into China with the glassware. The Roman Empire glass products in Western Europe and West Asia,The Sassanid Persia Empire glass products in Central Asia, and the Kushan Empire glass products in South Asia were introduced into China through the trade and exchanges on the Silk Road. From the Wei,Jin,Southern, and Northern Dynasties to Sui and Tang Dynasties,it was historical periods when Roman glass and Sassanian glass were introduced in China in large amounts. The precious glassware was introduced into China through trade and official trade envoy visits, and it has become the favorite goods sought after by the upper nobilities.During this period, the introduction of glassware had played a profound impact on the development of China’s indigenous glass technology. The Western glass blowing technology and glass formulations were learned and grasped by Chinese craftsmen, and the indigenous glass industry generates a different situation. From the Wei,Jin,Southern, and Northern Dynasties to Sui,and Tang Dynasties, the glass was impacted by multicultural factors.Various of technological styles and technology were merged, developed indigenously and generated indigenous glass with unique features. This paper will classify foreign glassware from different sources in accordance with archaeological materials from the perspective of the sino-foreign exchanges on the Silk Road.It also analyzes the influence of glassware and glass technology introduced into China, and clarifies the development of glass technology in China from the Wei,Jin,Southern, and Northern Dynasties to Sui and Tang Dynasties.
