Children’s literature is an important part of literature,with children as its target readers.According to current studies,there are great gaps between children and adults in mental state,wisdom,and ability of understanding and cognition.That means that literature translation for children is definitely different from that for adults.However,compared with mature overseas studies on translation for children’s literature,such studies in China have been quite weak and occupied the edge zone of the translation studies.To some extent,insufficient research in this field has produced a negative effect on quality of translations of foreign children’s literature.The author adopted the latter part of Crenshaw,including 27 chapters,as the material of this translation task.The author found that it was not difficult to understand the source text but so it was to present languages and qualities which delighted children and narrowed gaps between English and Chinese on the basis of children’s psychological features and capabilities for a good resonance between readers and the literary author when translating it.Text blanks are one of key concepts of the reception theory,which transforms the focus of translation research from text to readers,providing a brand-new perspective and point of view for translation studies.The theory points out that translators should take readers’ acceptance capability and horizon of expectations into full consideration and fill text blanks left by literary authors intentionally or unintentionally,with a view to fusing horizons of expectation between readers and authors.In this thesis,the author,under the guidance of the reception theory,manifests what is implied in the source text from two aspects,i.e.internal and external,thus eliminating readers’ barriers and helping them receive the same reading experience and aesthetic effect as English native readers do.
