When the Yuan Dynasty did not unify the country,neo-confucianism began to spread in the north,and the Lu Zhai school,represented by Xu Heng,was the most successful one in popularizing neo-confucianism.However,the famous Lu Zhai school was basically stopped at Xu Heng and his disciples for two generations,after it became famous for no neo-confucianism.The discussion on the rise and fall of the Lu Zhai school is helpful to the understanding of Confucianism and the situation of Confucian scholars in Yuan Dynasty.From two aspects of academic inheritance and school development,the strict Lu Zhai school should only include Dou Mo,Yao Shu and Xu Heng and their disciples.Dou Mo,Yao Shu and Xu Heng are three people who share the same academic background and even have similar life experiences.Therefore,they have the closest relationship.In the intergenerational perspective,the teacher-student relationship is a strong cohesive force to maintain the school.Compared with Dou Mo and Yao Shu,Xu Heng is more concentrate on education,so he has the largest number of disciples and the greatest influence.Xu Heng's disciples were also very close to each other.According to Yao Sui's records,he had a lot of contact with Gao Ning,Bai Dong,Chang Shiwen and others.The contradiction between the man of Lu Zhai school and Wang Wentong and Ahmmad reveals the fact that Confucianism has not been paid special attention to.The friendly external relations show that the success of the Lu Zhai school is inseparable from the help of other groups.For example,the Xing Zhou school had contact with Kublai Khan earlier than Dou,Yao and Xu,and doumo was able to enter the hubilai qiandi at the recommendation of Li Dehui in Xing Tai school.Then Yao Shu and Xu Heng had the opportunity to contact with Kublai Khan.Therefore,we cannot attribute the achievements of the Lu Zhai school only to its people,just as we cannot attribute the spread of neo-confucianism only to the Lu Zhai school.The extension of neo-confucianism is closely related to the school of Lu Zhai.The most influential is the official system,including the school construction and the Bureaucrat selection system,and ordered Xu Heng to worship Confucius temple,so that the scholars regarded Xu Heng as a contemporary Confucian.Secondly,the memorial activities initiated by the people or local officials,such as the construction of facilities such as Lu Zhai academy and Xuheng Temple,play the role of educating scholars.Finally,the spread of Xu Heng's works,Xu Heng's popularize the Neo-Confucianism,so that the neo-confucianism thought easier to understand,so as to expand the scope of the audience of neo-confucianism.In the academic category,the Lu Zhai school declined after two generations.Inside,the Lu Zhai school is easy for people to enter the official position,so the pursuit of pure academic away.Outside,on the one hand,the "upper class" had limited acceptance of neo-confucianism.When participating in the allocation of political resources,the neo-confucianists had no privilege,but fell into fierce competition.On the other hand,the development of society dragged Confucianism from the elite world to the secular society,and after losing its lofty social status,Confucianism was reduced to a general education path,which made it less attractive to people.Under the comprehensive influence of one inside and one outside,the Lu Zhai school,which had gained political status,turned to consolidate and develop its own political status instead of purely academic research.
