In the era of 'Internet plus,the development of information and technology has accelerated the arrival of smart class.People's ways of talking construct pictures of who people must be,research into construction of teachers' pragmatic identity in smart class is relatively neglected and under-researched.Thus,this study combines both of the hot topics to address three issues--what,how,why.Put it more specifically,to exemplify identities in smart class model,the thesis adopted Chen Xinren's(2018)analytic framework of pragmatic identity;To clarify how these identities adapted to the context,the thesis adopted Verschueren's linguistic adaptation framework;To identity the communicative function of teachers' pragmatic identity construction,the thesis combined the two theories to address issues.The subjects of this study are eight secondary teachers awarded in the China Competition of English Secondary Teachers in Information-based Smart Class.The total length of eight video recordings offered by conference sponsors are about 320 minutes,22,027 words in total.Besides,the study adopted qualitative method,including classroom observation,semi-structure interviews of two teachers and two student,four volunteers in total.The results show that the pragmatic identity of teachers in smart class model is diversified,dynamic and innovative.Firstly,diversity is manifested by the selectivity of identity and discourse practice.Various discourse practices,such as speech acts,multi-modal resource of discourse content,corrective feedback,are chosen to construct four identities in smart class:efficient collectors of students learning situations and internet resources;designers of efficient teaching;instructors of efficient learning;evaluators of students' performance in learning.Secondly,innovative teacher identity construction is reflected in the realization of the communicative function of teachers' pragmatic identity.Both pragmatic identity construction and adaptation aim at achieving communicative goals:The illocutionary function and the interpersonal function.A series achievement of illocutionary goals will lead to the final interpersonal goal.Only cooperation in interactive activities can ensure the development of harmonious interpersonal relationship between teachers and students,and furthermore,a rapport learning atmosphere;Thirdly,the dynamic identity is embodied in the variability of contextual correlates.Teacher pragmatic identities shift on account of adapting to physical world,effective teaching of social world and cognitive needs of mental world.Theoretically,the study provides a new perspective for the applied study on identity construction,which would inspire more studies on the construction of pragmatic identity in different teaching models.Practically,the results provide pragmatics support for smart class,which assists teachers with the construction of four pragmatic identities in smart class as well.
