A Report On Interpreting For The 5th Taishan International Fair For High-end Talents,High & New Technologies And High-tech Projects Of China

The report is based on the interpreting practice of the author at the 5th Taishan International Fair for High-end Talents,High&New Technologies and High-tech Projects of China(hereinafter referred to as the 5th Taishan International Fair,or the Fair)from April 24th to 25th of 2019.During the Fair,the author mainly offered consecutive interpreting service to foreign guests and Chinese representatives at banquets,a seminar and sideline negotiations,facilitating bilateral and multilateral communication in the event.The contents of the report include task description,interpreting process description,introduction to relevance theory,analysis of interpreting strategies,and feedback and self-reflection.The report,adopting the concepts of ostensive-inferential model,cognitive environment and optimal relevance under relevance theory,analyzes interpreting strategies such as anticipation,inquiry,addition,simplification,analogy and restructuring the interpreter employed in the interpreting process for conveyance of informative and communicative intentions and successful delivery of communication during the event.By making an analysis of authentic cases in the task,the author hopes to share with interpreting practitioners some strategies she used,provide some inspiration on interpreting study,and arouse awareness of relevance for better service in communication.
