Painted pottery is one of the most distinctive cultural factors in Dawenkou culture.It has been widely distributed in Haidai area from the early to late period of Dawenkou culture.At present,nearly 300 pieces of painted pottery and a large number of painted pottery shreds have been found through excavating and investigating.Many scholars have conducted thorough researches from different perspectives and come up with fruitful results.However,there are still some unknown puzzles in the study of Dawenkou cultural painted pottery in terms of system and overall staging and division,and the discussion on the hidden social meanings behind the painted pottery is also lacking.This thesis aims to apply the methods of archaeological stratigraphy and typology to study the painted pottery of Dawenkou culture in a systematic and comprehensive way.On this basis,a comparative study of painted pottery in different areas was carried out to explore the timed and spatial distribution of painted pottery in Haidai area.In addition,the painted pottery is returned to the relic unit,and the hidden social meanings of the colored pottery is discussed,including its use function and its relationship with the social complexity.This thesis is divided into eight parts:Introduction:This part mainly introduces the research object and scope of this thesis,the research overview of this topic,the research methods and theories applied and the writing ideas in this thesis.Chapter 1:The distribution and typical sites of Dawenkou Cultural painted pottery.This chapter mainly introduces the discovery and distribution of painted pottery in Dawenkou culture and the typical sites of excavated painted pottery.Chapter 2:The stage research of Dawenkou Cultural painted pottery.On the basis of previous studies on the stages of Dawenkou culture,based on the stratigraphic relationship and typological analysis of the unearthed painted pottery,the Dawenkou cultural painted pottery was divided into three development stages and five development periods.The pattern of painted pottery was analyzed and named uniformly.And the characteristics of painted pottery in different development periods are summarizedChapter 3:The partition study of Dawenkou Cultural painted pottery.On the basis of the study by stages,the distribution of the painted pottery in Dawenkou culture was divided into seven regions:the middle south of Shandong Province,the northern of Jiangsu Province,the north-central of Shandong Province,the northwest of Shandong Province,the southeastern part of Shandong Province,the eastern part of Shandong Province,and the connecting area of Lu-Yu-Wan,and the regional characteristics of the painted pottery were summarized.Chapter 4:The regional comparison of the painted pottery of Dawenkou Culture.Based on the shape and pattern of painted pottery,this chapter makes a comparative analysis of the painted pottery in the middle south of Shandong Province,the northern of Jiangsu Province,the north-central of Shandong Province,the northwest of Shandong Province and the eastern part of Shandong Province,and summarizes the similarities and differences in the development of painted pottery in different regions.Chapter 5:The timed and spatial distribution of painted pottery of Dawenkou Culture.On the basis of the painted pottery in stage and partition,according to the similarities and differences of development of painted pottery,the thesis analyses the transmission line of painted pottery in Haidai region in the period of painted pottery II,III,IVChapter 6:The social meanings of Dawenkou Cultural painted pottery.By analyzing the relic unit property of Dawenkou cultural painted pottery,the use function of painted pottery in different periods and regions was discussed.The relationship between painted pottery and social complexity is discussed by connecting the painted pottery with the burial formChapter 7:Conclusion.The main viewpoints of this thesis are briefly introduced and the shortcomings of this thesis were pointed out.
