Design Improvement And Effect Verification Of Classified Garbage Cans From The Perspective Of Affordance

Source classification and recycling of household garbage is the first step to realize harmless,reducing and recycling.Residents' behavior intention and behavior implementation of garbage classification is the source of the system project of garbage classification,which determines the success or failure of the system project.However,the transformation process from classification intention to classification behavior is influenced by external factors such as classification facilities.This study is mainly based on the "affordance" theory to explore how to guide and promote users' garbage classification behavior through the improvement of the common double sorting(recyclables and other trash)of outdoor garbage bins.Study 1 identified the typical problems in the current outdoor garbage cans through interviews and questionnaires.Study 2 investigates the influence of garbage bins' layout,shape and whether the inside of the garbage bins is visible on users' classified putting behavior through the related experiments.Study 3 determines users' preference for garbage classification identification through preference experiment.Study 4 carried out design practice based on the results of the previous three studies,make the improved sorting garbage bins and verify the effectiveness of the guidance and promotion of users' garbage classification behavior by field experiments.The results show:(1)At present,the main problem of double-classification outdoor garbage bins is that the two bins do not have particularly obvious differentiated properties,this makes it impossible for users to make quick and accurate judgments based on the garbage bins itself,therefore,it will affect the final result of garbage classification behavior.In addition,the study found that the current monochrome planarization style of garbage classification identification can not lead users to generate garbage classification behavior.(2)The layout,shape and the visibility of garbage information in the garbage bins have a significant impact on the classification behavior of the users.The specific performance is that there is a neighborhood effect in the side-by-side way of garbage delivery,however,there was no such effect in the top and bottom order;The racetrack circular release port can promote the release of recyclables;The visibility of garbage information in the garbage bins have a guiding effect on the behavior of garbage classification.(3)For garbage classification identification,the study found that users are more likely to choose color,three-dimensional and physical photo style of identification,instead of monochrome,flat and hand-painted style of identification.(4)The improved classification garbage bins can significantly improve the users' garbage classification accuracy.Overall accuracy increased from 60.6%to 90.1%.Among them,the accuracy rate of "recyclables" bin was increased from 29.0%to 87.0%,and the accuracy rate of"recyclables" bin was increased by three times;the accuracy of "other garbage" bins increased from 86.1%to 92.5%.
