As a demonstration of people's production and life, job performance has always been the focus of researchers. In order to improve people's job performance, researchers have done a lot of research on its influence factors. It is found that indoor noise has a significant negative impact on job performance. In previous studies, single characteristics of indoor noise has been studied extensively, but the study on the multiple characteristics of indoor noise hasn't been comprehensive, mainly reflected in:firstly, the existing research focuses on the noise intensity and noise type of continuous noise, less research on the interaction of the intermittent noise.Next, existing studies have proved that individuals at different motivation levels have different degrees of adaptation to task-unrelated disturbances, and the impact of indoor noise on job performance depends to some extent on the individual's motivation level. However, most previous relevant studies have not controlled the subjects' motivation level, which may affect the evaluation of job performance. Finally, due to people's flexibility in using cognitive resources, they will actively adjust various systems to make adaptive attempts in response to environmental pressure, the impact of environmental stimuli on psychological and physiological factors ultimately determines the output of job performance. Therefore,it is not only possible to investigate job performance indicators but also physiological parameters. This study focused on the interaction between multiple characteristics of indoor noise, controlled the motivation level of the subjects, and explored the impact of indoor noise on job performance by using the evaluation method combining job performance index and physiological parameter index. This study included two experiments.Experiment 1 used a simulated office task(typing test)and two cognitive tasks(Stroop color and word test, recognition of meaningless figures test)to investigate the effects of the interaction between multiple characteristics of indoor noise(noise schedule, noise intensity, noise type)on job performance and heart rate variability. On the basis of experiment 1,experiment 2 adopted three cognitive tasks(Stroop color and word test, recognition of meaningless figures test,K-L-T test)to further analyze the influence of noise environment(30dB quiet environment,70dB intermittent meaningful noise environment)on job performance and heart rate variability under different motivation levels(low motivation level, high motivation level). The results show that:1)Indoor noise effects on job performance is related to task type;2)In cognitive tasks, noise effect is not only embodied on the intermittent noise and meaningful language noise, but also exist two interactions between noise intensity and noise schedule, noise type and noise schedule;3)Job performance at a high motivation level is more likely to be affected by indoor noise;4)Individuals in indoor noise environment are in physiological stress state;5)The results of this study support the Maximal Adaptability Theory. In summary, this study provides empirical research support on noise for creating a healthy, comfortable and efficient indoor environment, and helps people more specifically prevent and reduce the negative effects of indoor noise on people's job performance and physical and mental health.
