Since its reform and opening up,China has registered remarkable economic achievements.However,along with these achievements coming acute environmental noise pollution.Although public awareness has been improved and many pieces of evidences suggest that excessive noise pollution can cause many health problems,the public still fail to realize its adverse impacts in an all-round way.Therefore,high quality translation of texts like the source text is required to improve public health and environmental awareness,and facilitate domestic scholars to draw on Europe’s advanced experience in treating environmental noise pollutionThis article selects Chapter 7 of Environmental Noise Pollution:Noise Mapping,Public Health and Policies as the source text.The translation report probes into the E-C translation of English for Science and Technology(EST)texts under Nida’s functional equivalence theory to discuss the translation strategies,methods and techniques in the process of translation.As the core of Nida’s translation studies,functional equivalence theory is developed from abundant practices,and solid theoretical researches.It is a translation theory with new perspectives.Under the guidance of this theory,the translation of EST texts leans more on conveying the original meaning of the source texts and brings out the cultural connotations of the target languageThe report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is the task description which briefly introduces the source,and features of the selected material as well as the research background and significance.The second chapter is description of translation process,which mainly covers the translation preparations as well as time and quality control.The third chapter is case analysis,which delves into practical translation strategies,methods and techniques of EST texts at different linguistic levels with the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.At last,the fourth chapter sums up the experience,lessons and inadequacies in this translation project.By analyzing E-C translation of some concrete examples,the translator expects that this paper can improve the translation quality of such EST texts and help domestic experts and technicians to learn and master foreign advanced mitigation measures on environmental noise pollution.
