Taking Andrew Lefevere's "rewriting theory" as its theoretical framework, this thesis uses the bilingual news reports about Sino-US trade war on FT Chinese website from March to December 2018 as examples to discuss the manipulation of ideology, poetics, and patronage on English-Chinese news trans-editing.From the perspective of ideology, this paper mainly analyzes the translation of politically sensitive words, the downplay of trade conflicts, the treatment of negative information and the change of action subjects. With regards to poetics,it talks about the application of common sayings and idioms in news trans-editing.In terms of patronage, the dual influence of the British Financial Times Group and the Chinese government is analyzed. The influence of the former is reflected in the restoration of the negative information that have already been deleted from headlines and its loose censorship over readers' comments while that of the latter is manifested in the fact that the news trans-editing of the website as a whole does not go against China's interest through the manipulation of ideology. This thesis adopts a descriptive research method to explain the socio-cultural reasons behind English-Chinese news trans-editing from the perspective of rewriting theory, and analyzes the manipulation of ideology, poetics, and patronage over translators' choices in detail by taking the news of a specific event,Sino-US trade war,as an example.
