The separable words are special because they can use both as a word and a phrase,and there are no corresponding form in other languages,so when foreign students learn it,they will inevitably make errors,we have to say that the separable words are the key points in our teaching.But so far,there are fewer studies on errors of native English speakers,it is necessary for us to do some research in this field,therefore this paper mainly uses questionnaire survey to study the rules and characteristics of errors in the acquisition of separable words,and further explore the causes of errors.In the end,we put forward some suggestions for Chinese reaching.First of all,based on the existing achievements,this article summarize and classify the relevant achievements of separable' words.Secondly,after referring the previous research,syllabus and textbooks,the author choose 11 kinds of separation forms of 20 verb-object separable words as the research object and design a questionnaire.The questionnaire was mainly conducted in Confucius Institute of De Montfort University.Thirdly the author summed up the types of errors and the causes of them,then have the conclusion as follows:the teaching effect is not satisfactory which still need our attention in the future teaching;words with high usage which are closely related to our life have high accuracy;in contrast,low usage or used with complex grammar,the accuracy usually is low;in general,their master of verb-object separable words tends to increase as the level of Chinese increase;there are also significant differences in accuracy rates between different learning environments.Finally,the author put forward some suggestions from the following three aspects:textbook writing,classroom teaching and students learning.Last but not least,the author designed a teaching lesson,hoping to bring some ideas and provide some references for the later Chinese teaching and learning.
