Chinese as second language in Malaysia colleges and universities has steadily developed and 20 public universities had set up Chinese as second language required or elective courses.However,due to traditional(teacher centered)teaching methods and less effective classroom teaching,students' Chinese communication skills have not been effectively improved,which has affected their enthusiasm for learning Chinese.Therefore,it is important to choose more conducive teaching methods to improve students' Chinese expression ability.Drama in Education(DiE)is based on constructivism theory,communicative theory,and student-centered learning theory.It focuses on cultivating students' creativity,imagination,comprehension and communication skills,and enhances the ability of language communication through learning in designed scenarios.This research will explore the feasibility and effectiveness of applying DiE in Chinese as second language class at Malaysia university.The research conducted three teaching experiments using DiE in the elementary Chinese language teaching at the Putra University in Malaysia.The drama activities that had been chosen are role dialogue,improvisation and role-play.A questionnaire survey was conducted on the students in the experimental class and the control class.Studies have shown that Malaysian college students love the activities designed by teachers using DiE methods.Most students were actively involved in the class activities.The average test scores of experimental class are better that control class and the students were more proactive.Feasibility and effectiveness of DiE in Chinese as second language class had been verified.This study had fill in the gap of DiE applied reseach in the Chinese as second Language teaching in Malaysia universities.This thesis is divided into 5 parts.The first part is the preamble,which introduces the origin and significance of the research,the research content and methods,the concepts definition of "drama" and "DiE",and summarizes the relevant research.The second part are about drama development history,theoretical basis and application of DiE in the second language teaching are sorted out.The third part introduced the research process and implementation,research subject and research background.The process of each DiE teaching experiments is described in detail.The fourth part is experimental result verification and analysis.The analysis was made through the questionnaires and interviews,students test result analysis,teacher review.The feasibility and effectiveness of the use of DiE methods was explained in this part.The fifth part is the conclusion that conclude this research and DiE in chinese as second language class teaching suggestions list.
