English Translation Strategies Of Chinese Political Documents From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

As China positions itself as a responsible country in the new era,Xi Jinping:The Governance of China ? epitomizes the political thoughts of the Chinese leadership and demonstrates the development of Chinese political governance.Political documents constitute one of the major channels for Chinese voices in the world and their translations have drawn widespread attentionthis thesis takes the adaptation theory as the theoretical framework to study the translation strategies of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China ? from the four perspectives of contextual adaptation,structural adaptation.dynamics and salience of adaptation.With the combination of textual analysis and survey results,the thesis attempts to explore the translation strategies and the level of acceptance of foreign readers towards the bookThe study finds out that firstly,through the textual analysis of contents with Chinese characteristics,in Xi Jinping:The Governance of China ?.there are four major translation strategies viewed from the perspective of adaptation theory,namely,amplification,omission,liberal translation and syntactic adjustments.And secondly,the survey shows that native English speakers prefer translations that adapt to the habitual usage of English,and that furnish readers with relevant cultural.political.and historical background knowledgeThe study shows that adaptation theory is valuable in guiding the translation of political documents.Translations that adapt to the features of the target language and provide relevant background knowledge will be much more likely accepted by target readers.
