Cao Wenxuan is a well-known Chinese children's literature writer.Qingtong Kuihua,his representative work,highly regarded at home and abroad,has been translated into many languages.The English version was translated by the translator Helen Wang,who won the 2017 Marsh Translation Literature Award for her translation Bronze and Sunflower.Many domestic scholars mainly study the translator's translation strategies or the translation text Bronze and Sunflower,but there has not been enough research on the gains and losses of the stylistic reproduction of the original text.For a long time,researchers usually use some “abstract terms” to discuss the stylistic features.Although abstract terms can reflect the stylistic features of text to a certain extent from the perspective of linguistics,there is no scientific definition.Thus the connotation is ambiguous.Therefore,the translatability of literary style has become the focus of attention and debate in translation studies.Professor Liu Miqing believes that the analysis of style cannot be separated from the analysis of the formal structure of language.Only when the translator performs structural analysis on the original text can he/she better reproduce the style of the original text.The stylistic marker theory proposed by Professor Liu Miqing allows the translator to recognize the stylistic features of the original work from the perspective of language form,which can provide an intuitive basis for the reproduction of the translated style,making the exploration of style characteristics more operable.Based on the stylistic marker theory of Liu Miqing,the author first analyzes the formal and non-formal markers of the original text to grasp its style.Analysis of formal markers covers four levels: phonological level,lexical level,syntactic level and rhetorical level.Analysis of non-formal markers covers three aspects: techniques of expression,inner quality of the original text and inherent disposition of the author.With this as a basis,the author goes on to explore the translation strategies adopted by Helen Wang who reproduces the stylistic features of the original,and at the same time explores the phenomenon and reasons of the losses in style reproduction.The major findings are as follows: on the one hand,the translator attaches great importance to the reproduction of the original style in the translation.In reproducing phonological markers,the translator mainly adopts the literal translation to reproduce the rhythm of the original children's language.In reproducing lexical markers,due to differences in cultural backgrounds,the translator uses the strategy of domestication and foreignization when translating food or animals with Chinese characteristics,which not only retains the characteristics of the original text,but also allows foreign readers to better accept.When the translator deals with the sensitive words,she adopts the strategy of adaptation to avoid awkwardness.Regarding the reproduction of rhetorical techniques,the translator is faithful to the original text and adopts corresponding rhetorical techniques and uses the methods of addition and literal translation,which retains the imaginative and boastful style of children's literature.On the other hand,there are also losses of style in the process of translation.In terms of lexical,the original work uses some dialects to reflect the characteristics of local literature.Due to cultural and linguistic differences,the translator losses its deep meaning of some,which causes the loss of style to a certain extent.In terms of writing skills,in order to imply the fate of the characters and promote the plot development of the novel,to provoke the thoughts of the small readers,the author adopts the way of foreshadowing in the narrative.In the translation,the translator omits them.This affects the complete reproduction of the original style to a certain extent.Although there are some losses in the translation,on the whole,the translation reasonably reproduces the style of the original text.
