Style Reconstruction From The Perspective Of Stylistic Marker Theory

As a distinctive literature genre,reportage not only,as the news report does,represents the event timely and swiftly but also,with its literary devices,combines detail descriptions and vivid plots.Reportage translation is of great significance to the shaping of the international image of China and to the enhancement of China's soft power at the age of globalization.In terms of style,reportage is unique in its diction and syntactic usages,its expression of sentiments and its manner of writing in general.Such stylistic features require the translator to adopt corresponding strategies in order to achieve an effective equivalence.Translatability of style has long been a controversial issue among scholars.Most of them agree that style could be reproduced in the translation as long as it does not affect the readability.Many translators and translation theory researchers have tried to propose methods on maintaining the style of the original text.Traditionally,stylistic studies pay attention to genre,writers and manner of writing,but stylistic analysis of such kind focuses on speculative philosophy rather than provides detailed translation strategies.Practical translation stylistics should explore the expression techniques of the original text and at the same time manage to make the style of the translation appropriate for the targeted readers.Stylistic marker theory has inherited the fruits of modern linguistics,semiotics,aesthetics,applied linguistics and developed a set of analytic tools,translation strategies and principles that are applicable to translation practice.High Moment,as an excellent reportage work,records the courageous deeds of China's medical foreign-aid team.The translation of High Moment plays an active role in improving China's global image.To reproduce the style of High Moment in translation remains the top priority for attracting the target readers' attention.Drawing on stylistic marker theory,this report intends to analyze the style construction of C-E Translation of High Moment from the perspectives of marker(register,verbal,syntactic and rhetorical markers)and non-marker.Through this analysis,this report discovers that the style of the original text could be effectively constructed with corresponding,recasting and de-coloring strategies.With this translation practice,the translator also has obtained a clearer understanding of the systematic and scientific translation procedure for online team-work translation.Therefore,this reflective report is not only important in directing the author's future translation study but also able to make contribution to reportage translation as a whole.
