According to the English curriculum standard for senior high schools(2017 edition),the specific goal of English curriculum for senior high schools is to cultivate and develop students' key competencies of English subject.The proposal of key competencies is a new trend that our country conforms to the world educational innovation and development.The design and implementation of English curriculum around the key competencies of English subject will surely become a milestone of English education in China.High school English teachers should embody the cultivation of key competencies of English subject in teaching design,and run the formation and development of students' key competencies of English subject through the whole process of English teaching.Under the requirement of the new subject goal,English reading will play an important role in improving students' key competencies,especially their language ability,cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability.Based on this background,this paper intends to explore the current situation of English reading teaching design in senior high school under the key competencies of English subject,this paper aims to strengthen senior high school English teachers'awareness of the key competencies of English subject and the design of English reading teaching,so as to effectively improve the teaching methods of English reading in senior high schoolOn the basis of literature analysis,this paper expounds the relationship and connotation between key competencies and key competencies of English subject.Based on the analysis of 12 senior high school English reading teaching designs,and through classroom observation and interviews with 6 teachers,the author tries to solve the following two research problems:(1)What is the current situation in the teaching design of applied reading for senior high school of key competencies of English subject?(2)What factors affect the implementation of key competencies of English subject in senior English reading teaching design?Through this investigation,the author finds that the concept of key competencies of English subject has been formed in senior middle school English teachers' teaching.English teachers can consciously carry out the key competencies of English subject into the teaching design of reading.However,some teachers still do not have a comprehensive understanding of the key competencies of English subject.In the process of teaching design,teachers often neglect how to cultivate students' key competencies of English subject,or teachers often neglect to cultivate students'cultural awareness.Teachers often do not give students effective background information to read the text.Most teachers continued to focus on developing students'language skills.Teachers have been mentioned in the daily classroom for developing students' critical thinking,but there are still some deficiencies in the teacher's design.A lot of times teachers ignore students' awareness of self-regulated learning.The teacher often uses a spoon-feeding method of teaching.The main factor that affects the implementation of the key competencies of English subject is the examination-oriented education.The second factor is the textbook version is too old.The teachers' understanding of the key competencies is not deep enough,and the teachers can't analyze the reading text deeply.Students' inherent traditional learning habits also have a certain impact on the implementation of key competencies of English subject.Finally,according to the research results,the author puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the reading teaching design under the guidance of key competencies of English subject.And the author discusses the inadequacy of this study as well as the prospects for future research.
