A Study Of Senior High School English Reading Teaching From The Perspective Of English Key Competency

In the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition),the key competency of students in English has been defined as the key goal of English teaching.English reading is an important part of high school English teaching and it plays an important role in cultivating students’ English key competency.At present,how to promote the development of students’ English key competency through English reading teaching is becoming the focus of English teaching.Based on the theory of Multiple Intelligence and Schema theory,this paper investigates the current situation of English reading teaching in a senior high school in Dezhou by using classroom observation,interview and questionnaire.The research questions in this paper are listed below:(1)What is the current situation of English reading teaching in senior high schools?(2)What are the problems in English reading teaching in senior high schools from the perspective of English key competency?(3)How should teachers solve the problems in senior high school English reading teaching under the guidance of key competency? Through interviews,we can understand the implementation of English key competency in teachers’ English reading teaching in senior high school.Through the questionnaire,we can understand the implementation of English key competency in senior high school English reading teaching from the perspective of students.Through investigation and analysis,this paper finds that the following problems exist in the current high school English reading teaching:(1)Senior high school English teachers pay more attention to the explanation of basic knowledge and neglect the cultivation of students’ ability.(2)Senior high school English teachers do not pay attention to the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness,which makes students’ intercultural communication ability not improved.(3)Teachers neglect the status of students in the teaching process,resulting in students’ low enthusiasm for learning.(4)In the reading teaching,the teacher neglects the guidance of the students’ reading strategies,resulting in the students’ poor reading performance.In view of the above problems,this paper puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions for the cultivation of the four dimensions of English key competency.Finally,this paper summarizes the limitations of this survey and makes recommendations for further research in the future.The author hopes that this paper can promote the improvement of English reading teaching in senior high school and the overall development of students’ English key competency.
