Improving primary and secondary school students' reading ability has always been an important research object of education reform and current school education,but in recent years,the concept of "reading literacy" has gradually replaced "reading ability".However,picture books,as a popular resource to supplement textbooks,can arouse students' interest in reading,expand their reading volume and develop their good reading habits.Therefore,this paper is devoted to studying how to promote students'reading quality in the teaching of picture books.This paper mainly adopts four methods of literature research,they are action research,interview and classroom observation.This paper tries to study how advanced English picture book teaching can promote students' reading quality from the theoretical and practical aspects.In the first part,through the collation and analysis of literature,the concepts related to reading literacy and picture book teaching and the existing research are comprehensively explained and summarized.The second part is a practical study on the teaching of English picture books for senior students,which includes an analysis of the basic learning situation of senior students from four aspects:assessment of students' English academic level,statistical analysis of class capacity,students' cognitive development level,and students' and reading literacy.The results show that the English foundation of senior students is above average.But students' English reading literacy is still relatively weak.Before studying how to cultivate foreign language reading quality of senior students through picture book teaching,firstly,this paper conducts a preliminary analysis of the current situation of English picture book teaching through interview method,which lays a foundation for the next step.The results show that.Nowadays,there are two problems in the teaching of picture books:improper selection of picture books and single teaching goal of picture books.After two rounds of action research,this paper compared the changes of students'reading literacy before and after the action research by means of before-after tests.The research results showed that students' other key abilities of reading literacy were improved except that their reading character ability was not improved.In addition,through classroom observation,this paper studied the status quo,problems and causes of cultivating students' reading quality through picture book teaching in two rounds of action research.The main problems of picture book teaching for senior students include:improper selection of picture books;The teaching goal of picture books is single;Neglected underachievers in picture-book teaching;Students do not understand the teacher's instructions;There are five problems in the relationship between picture books and teaching materials.The main reasons for these problems are:there is no in-depth research on picture books;The class size is too large,the teacher can not take care of every student;Teacher instructions and improper.However,the main problems in the classroom where reading quality is cultivated through picture book teaching are as follows:the key ability of reading literacy cannot be cultivated at the same time and the implementation of reading quality cultivation is poor.The causes of these two problems mainly include:limited class time;Different methods and modes of cultivating the key ability of reading literacy;Picture books have limited resources.The third part is mainly about the research on the practical strategies of promoting senior students' reading literacy through English picture book teaching.The first aspect is the teaching design of cultivating English reading quality of senior students through picture book teaching,which is mainly divided into three aspects:English picture book reading preparation,English picture book reading teaching process and case analysis.The second aspect is the strategy of cultivating the reading quality of senior students through the teaching of picture books.The main strategies include the preparation work before the teaching of picture books,the basic way to cultivate the reading quality of foreign language through the teaching of picture books,the teaching methods and ways to promote the teaching of students' reading quality and improve their reading quality.
