Many Japanese idioms where the “eye” related phrases as the main body vocabulary,frequently appear in the language commonly used in research,but rarely studied separately.As a research object,the idiomatic form of idioms has received more and more attention from researchers in recent years.Due to the complexity and diversity of idioms themselves,there are also different opinions in the academic field.Therefore,it is difficult to unify their research scope.In the study of idioms,the emphasis is often placed on the structural characteristics,rhetorical methods,and grammatical effects,so that the research on the semantic formation mechanism and understanding methods of idioms is ignored.The lack of a more in-depth research and discussion in this regard.With the emergence and gradual development of cognitive linguistics,a new basis for idiomatic research has also been born.In traditional linguistics,metaphor is regarded as a kind of rhetoric.In the field of cognitive linguistics,metaphor is a way for human to recognize external things.This article takes the body vocabulary “eye” as the research object,and makes a comparative study of the Chinese and Japanese idioms about “eye” from the perspective of cognitive metaphor.Its main purpose is to analyze the similarities and differences between the Chinese and Japanese idiomatic meanings of “eye”.In this way,we can further understand the practical role of “eye” as an element of idioms in idioms,and understand the significance and potential impact of cognitive models in idioms.First,through corpus collection,the idioms related to “eye” in Chinese and Japanese are defined,and the basic meaning and derived meaning of “eye” in Chinese and Japanese are examined.By analyzing dictionary definitions,the basic meaning of “eye” is identified,and multiple derived meanings of “eye” are summarized and classified.Secondly,the meaning expansion process of “eye” is explored.Using the method of case demonstration,this paper analyzes the various meaning-generating mechanisms,and discusses the metaphorical expression of “eye” and the realization of metaphor concepts in the process of semantic expansion.Finally,referring to Lakoff 's and Johnson's metaphor theory,we investigate from two aspects.One is the idiom of “same source domain” in Chinese and Japanese.This part mainly includes “idioms with the same source domain and target domain” and “idioms from the same source domain with different targeting”.The second is the idiom of “different source domains” between Chinese and Japanese.This part mainly includes “idioms with different source domains and the same target domain” and “idioms with different source domains and target domains”.To explore the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese idiomatic expressions and their causes through a comparative analysis of Chinese and Japanese metaphorical idioms,the discovery of Chinese and Japanese metaphorical cognitive models,and the correspondence between Chinese and Japanese idioms.
