"The 40th Anniversary Of The Founding Of The People's Government" In 1935 Taiwan Expo Study

This article takes the "Thirtieth Anniversary of the Founding of Taiwan" in 1935 as the research object.The article concludes four aspects.The reasons for the exhibition and its general situation,the presentation of Taiwan's "modernity" under Japanese colonization,the presentation of the Japanese Empire and its colonial character,and"China" response.First,with the help of newspapers,books,literature,etc.,to analyze the background of the expo,and briefly summarized the previous expos held in Taiwan and the general situation of the expo.Based on this,the colonial character of the Japanese Empire before and after the expo was analyzed through various media and events.Taiwan society also reacts differently to "imperial colonization." In addition to colonialism,the fair's displays and facilities also revealed the "modernity" brought by Japan.But through the joint evidence of other materials,Japan's "modernity" is not simple.In addition,Taiwan,which have been temporarily divided,and "China" still maintain close ties.Different "Chinese" people,from the government to the people have different reactions to the expo,which is worth exploring.The conclusion part analyzes the opportunity of Japan to host this expo and the perception of Taiwan and the"Chinese" people.Under malicious predatory,national emotion,discrimination and injustice,the "modernity" of this expo needs to be re-interpreted.Taken as a whole,it can be described as limited.Japan only takes its own national interest as its sole criterion,and colonialism is its best interpretation.This exhibition was held for 50 days,and it is the largest and the largest number of participants in Japan.The expo is divided into five parts,with Taipei as the main venue and other venues.With the Governor's Palace as the core,it helps to build up three major organizations,namely,the Taiwan Expo,the Taiwan Expo Association and Da Daocheng Association of Nanfang Museum were established.Each organization has a reasonable division of labor,carrying out publicity and donation mobilization,selection of exhibits and venue layout.Japan hopes to show its "empire strength" through the exposition,which can be seen in the exhibitions at various venues.However,in this process,Japan's hopes of"southern advancement",timely adjustment of the "principle policy" without changing the tone,and manipulation and control of Taiwanese memory are typical examples of its colonial character.A small number of people feel novel about the fair and visit it with a lively mood.In addition,some youth groups in Taiwan take part in opposing Japanese actions and intellectuals have expressed dissatisfaction by writing.The pavilions and other venues deliberately highlighted Taiwan's "modernization"under Japanese rule through "contrast maps of the past and now" that the colonial authorities intentionally arranged.The development of Taiwan's industry,the improvement of trafic outside the venue,the progress of the health and epidemic prevention system,the advance of public facilities,and the advancement of people's leisure and entertainment.Judging from the show,Taiwan has indeed made some progress,but Taiwan has been sacrificed a lot and paid a heavy price.Japan plundered Taiwan's resources madly in exchange for maximum economic benefits;more schools were opened for education,but resource allocation was heavily skewed towards Japanese in Taiwan.The Japanese also worked hard on the "Mandarin" teach,hoping to use this to erase Taiwanese's memory of Mandarin and further "Japaneseize" it.When Japan held an exposition in Taiwan,"China" also sent a delegation to visit and exchange,with Fujian Province as the representative.The Fujian Provincial Government sent special personnel to Taiwan to revitalize the economy.Before that,it also held special product competitions to select products,which was quite prepared.The province's products were also well received at the fair.Some social groups and related persons also went to Taiwan.There were visitors and people who made a living in Taiwan.Regarding the situation in Taiwan and special figures,such as Gu Xianrong and others,some people who did not go to Taiwan from "China" also expressed their views.In short,this exhibition involves more aspects.At the Expo,Japan did not show its colonial character,and the "modernity" it wanted to show was full of stains and couldn't stand it.In addition to the response from the upper and lower levels in Taiwan,the response from "China" is equally important for studying the expo.
