On Translating Strategies Of Chinese Classical Poetry And Essays Based On Newmark's Translation Theory

China's foreign exchanges are getting closer and closer,and its international status is constantly rising.“Tell China's stories well and spread China's voice well” is an important strategy for China's foreign propaganda work.In this process,Chinese classical poetry and essays,as a microcosm of Chinese culture,is a difficult point in the external dissemination of Chinese culture.It is an important mission for translators in the new era that convey the unique Chinese cultural connotation of Chinese classical poetry and essays to the target language audience,and makes the audience accept and identify with it.Newmark,a successful translation theorist whose translation theory has aroused extensive discussion in the whole western translation field and has had a far-reaching influence on the development of translatology.Semantic translation and communicative translation are not only the core of Newmark's Translation Theory,but also the most characteristic and important part of Newmark's Translation Theory.Based on Newmark's Translation Theory,this thesis analyzes the translating strategies of Chinese classical poetry and essays from the perspectives of semantic translation principle,communicative translation principle and correlative translation method.The purpose of this thesis is to provide translators with reference for translation strategies and the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture.By using the method of descriptive translation research,this thesis puts the study of translation strategies of Chinese classical poetry and essays in the background of the times,and selects the Chinese classical poetry and essays in Xi Jinping's speeches from 2012 to 2018 as the corpus,and it combines the study of translation strategies of Chinese classical poetry and essays with the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture to the outside world.This thesis carries out the research from five chapters.This thesis selects the corpus of Chinese classical poetry and essays quoted in Xi Jinping's speeches from 2012 to 2018,summarizing the different views of scholars on the standards and norms of the translation of Chinese classical poetry and essays,and expounding that the language characteristics of Chinese classical poetry and essays lie in its unique language characteristics,structure,form and profound cultural connotation,that is,the language of Chinese classical poetry and essays contains allusions,puns,metonymy and other writing skills,as well as some unique things of Chinese culture,especially format,rhythm,artistic conception and many other unique elements.It also concludes that the difficulties in the translation of Chinese classical poetry and essays lie in cultural differences,differences in grammatical structure and vocabulary,differences in image processing patterns and differences in format.Under the guidance of Newmark's Translation Theory,this thesis precipitates the translation strategies of faithful translation,semantic interpretation,words,sentence corresponding,add and subtract words,free translation,omit summary,domestication,restructuring structure.The author believes that these eight translating strategies solve the problem of how to strike a balance between retaining more Chinese cultural characteristics and satisfying the needs of communication.The research of this thesis has certain reference value for the translation of Chinese classical poetry and essays and has practical significance for the foreign exchange of traditional Chinese culture.
