English is the most important international language and the tool for international communication.English is our nation's necessary course from primary schools to universities,moreover,it is the necessary testing contents of the national entrance examination for master's Candidates.In 1980,our nation began to implement the National Entrance Test of English For MA/MS Candidates(NETEM),how did its content's structure and question type's structure change?Are there any problems with its content's structure and question type's structure?In order to answer for these questions,this paper conducts the research,which has the theoretical value and practical significance for the reformation of NETEM.Excepting the introduction and conclusion,the contents of this research includes five parts.The first part is the core concepts definition and theoretical basis explanation.The second part is the background of the longitudinal development of NETEM and divides its development into 4 periods:establishment period,adjustment period,innovation period and classification period,besides,the characteristics of each period are simply analyzed.The third part analyzes the contents and question types of NETEM in the horizontal microscopic aspects.The fourth part adopts the interviewing methods to analyze the problems and reasons of NETEM in 40 years.The fifth part puts forward 6 specific reforming suggestions to the contents and question types of NETEM.The examination is the important way of selecting talents.The content's structure and question type's structure of NETEM is related with the quality of candidates selected.The research shows that the content's structure and question type's structure of NETEM is generally keeping up with the times.The content's structure pay more attention to test language ability,the variety of question type is more stable and scientific.Nevertheless,there are some problems with the contents and question types,such as the unbalance of testing listening,speaking,reading and writing;lacking of examinating the logical thinking and the subjective and objective question types are unbalanced.Therefore,in order to make NETEM more scientific,its content's structure should test listening,speaking,reading and writing evenly,strengthen the testing of logical thinking and relate with postgraduate's study.In the aspect of question types,the proportion of subjective and objective question types should be balanced and learn from the question types of international and national English tests.
