Family is an important circumstance for teenagers to live,and parenting style significantly affects the teenagers' physical and psychological development.Previous studies have shown that negative parenting style can positively predict adolescents'problematic Internet use.Recent research focused on a typical negative parenting style,harsh parenting causes externalization and internalization of children,but there are few studies concerned the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic network use.High school is a key stage in the development of self-consciousness among adolescents Self-concept clarity has been proved to be a protective factor of mental health and can negatively predict the level of problematic Internet use.At the same time,the basic psychological needs are necessary for human.When people cannot fulfill their basic psychological needs,they will become maladjustment in behaviors,such as problematic networking.Therefore,this study was to explore the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic network use in high school students,and also examined the roles of basic psychological needs and self-concept clarity between them.The second propose was to carry out the Group counselling by manipulating the roles of basic psychological needs and self-concept clarity to reduce the adolescents' problematic internet use.There were two studies in the current research.The first Study used the "Harsh parenting Scale","Chinese Internet Addiction Scale","Self-Concept Clarity Scale" and "Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale"to investigate the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic Internet use in a sample of 553 high school students in Wuhan.Based on the first study,the second study used group counseling to intervene 8 adolescent who suffered harsh parenting and had relatively high levels of problematic internet use.Results showed that:(1)The scores of harsh parenting of male students were significantly higher than that of female students,the scores of self-concept clarity and problematic Internet use of senior students were significantly higher than that of junior students;(2)Problematic internet use was negatively related to basic psychological needs and self-concept clarity,and positively related to harsh parenting,and basic psychological needs were positively related to self-concept clarity;(3)The basic psychological needs played a mediating role in the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic internet use,and the mediating effect accounts for 57.43%of the total effect;(4)Self-concept Clarity moderated the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic network use.As the level of self-concept clarity increases,harsh parenting affected the problematic network use more greater.(5)Group counselling that was based on basic psychological needs and clarity of self-concepts did not significantly reduce the problematic internet use among the senior school students.Research has verified that basic psychological needs and self-concept clarity play important roles in the relationship between harsh parenting and problematic internet use,which enriched the theory of problematic network use and also had some suggestions for interventions in the problematic internet use.
