In recent years, many studies have been done on the parenting types, self-esteem and psychological well-being and related scales have been developed by the researchers in our country. However, most of these studies took the general students in university, middle school and elementary school as the samples, a special group has been neglected, the problematic students. They are different from other students and need more attention and help. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to examine if there are relationships among the parenting types in family, their self–esteem and their psychological well-being level. Three questionnaires were administered to the problematic students and general students in this study, EMBU, SES and scl90. We hope the results could provide some useful information in crisis prevention and intervention on the problematic students, such as adjusting the family environment, helping them out of self-abasement and preventing the misconduct. This study makes the following conclusions:1. The parents of problematic students show more rejection, punishment, intervention or protecting in family than the parents of general students.2. The self-esteem level of the problematic students is lower than other students, but the difference is not significant. However, the severe punishment from parents has relationship with their children's low self-esteem.3. The psychological health level of problematic students is lower than other students.4. The rejection from parents affects the self-esteem level and severe punishment from parents causes the low self-esteem level of problematic students. Moreover, the inappropriate parenting types have high correlation with their pessimism. More specifically, mother's excessive intervention and protection affect their psychological health level, especially the sensitivity, anxiety and psychotic disorder.5. The self-esteem level of problematic students has negative correlation with three factors in psychological health, depression, interpersonal relationship and psychotic disorder.6. Problematic student parents is the same trend in educational means. However, parents educational means are serious different.
