As an important carrier of human thoughts and technological achievements,language is a precious resource for human society.With the development of multiculturalism,the exchanges between different languages and cultures are becoming more and more frequent around the world.The maintenance of linguistic and cultural diversity and the protection of language resources have become issues of concern to some multi-ethnic countries.Many countries have taken measures protect their mainstream languages and minority languages through bilingual education.The United States is one of the countries with rich language resources and an echology of diversified languages in the world.The United States has a long history of bilingual education,covering folk education activities and government education regulations.Both of them have experienced a process of ups and downs,and they sometimes resist each other and sometimes promote each other,which makes it valuable to explore ecological significance of many factors that have affected American bilingual education.The lessons and influencing factors of Amerian bilingual education work together to provide a reference for the study and formulation of language education policies in some multi-ethnic countries.From the perspective of Ecolinguistics,this thesis takes American bilingual education as the research object to find out the ecological factors that affect American bilingual education through historical research.The positive factors include: the needs of multilingual social life,the promotion of policies and regulations,and the self-regulatory role of language ecology;The negative factors are reflected in the contradictory language views of upper and lower classes,the reduction of minority language loyalty and loose language contact.The continuous development of bilingual education in The United States is characterized by the alternation of positive and negative factors.Drawing on the experience and lessons from the development of American bilingual education,and for the positive and negative factors affecting its development,the relevant enlightenment for the development of bilingual education is drawn from three aspects: decision-making,regulatory system and implementation.It refers to changing the concept of decision-making,strengthening the establishment of policies and regulations,and properly implementing bilingual education.It aims to promote the research and formulation of scientific bilingual education policies in multi-ethnic countries,and to ensure the common development of national mainstream languages and minority languages.
