Owing to the “Belt and Road” from China, cultural exchanges among countries around the world are deepening, and the elements of traditional Chinese costumes are also increasingly favored by foreigners.“Ancient country in clothes and hats” has always been a title that Chinese are well-known,thus the translation of traditional costume texts is conducive to the exchange and dissemination of traditional Chinese costume culture. As an encyclopedia of Chinese classical culture,A Dream of Red Mansions records rich and detailed traditional Chinese costume culture. The incisive and vivid depiction of costumes in the novel reflects the spirit of the society at that times, which is worthy to be repeatedly deliberated and studied.Harmonious integration translation theory,as Chinese translation theory based on the framework of Harmonology in conflict and integration, puts forward five core Harmonious integration translation connotations: Ontological View,Ethical View,Epistemological View,Aesthetic View, and Cultural View. The rationality of the combination of human and language in translation activities was discussed, which provides a new perspective for the research in the field of translation.Based on the framework of Harmonious integration translation theory, two versions of A Dream of Red Mansions from Hawkes,Minford and Yang Xianyi,Gladys Yang are selected as the research material in this paper. The research method of qualitative research primarily and empirical analysis secondarily is adapted in this study.By analyzing translation cases of traditional costume texts in A Dream of Red mansions, the embodiment of Harmonious integration translation in two versions of A Dream of Red Mansions is discussed further to verify theoretical superiority of Harmonious integration translation theory in traditional costume texts. And also, translation model of traditional costume texts based on Harmonious translation theory is attempted to construct in this thesis. The major findings are as follows: firstly,Harmonious integration translation of traditional costume texts in A Dream of Red mansions is mainly reflected in two dimensions: Harmonious integration between subjects of traditional costume texts focuses on the order of “past, present and future” in the vertical dimension and Harmonious integration between the subject and the object is at the level of“language, culture and art” in the horizontal dimension;secondly,Harmonious integration translation theory has theoretical advantages in discussing the process and attributes of traditional costume texts comprehensively from its dynamic perspective of the Harmonious integration between the subject and object;finally, translators can apply the translation model based on five core connotations of harmonious translation theory in traditional costume texts to realize the co-existence of the original text and the target text.In conclusion,Harmonious integration translation theory plays a powerful role in the translation of traditional costume texts, providing a new direction for the field of Classics translation studies. And it can contribute to a better Chinese Classics translation, promoting continuous dissemination and exchange of Chinese traditional culture.
