Anxiety is an emotional state that we often experience in our daily lives. It is generally believed that individuals with high trait anxiety are more likely to experience frequent and high levels of anxiety and worry in response to various stressful situations. Many studies have shown the correlation between anxiety and cognitive performance, most of which were conducted under the dual-task experimental paradigm. Most previous studies have studied the cognitive performance of trait anxious individuals under threat situations, while some studies have found that trait anxious individuals under non-threat situations also show insufficient attention control, especially under high working memory load. However, these findings remain controversial.First of all,the types of tasks and the difficulty of tasks used in these studies are not consistent in exploring the influence of anxiety on cognitive task performance.Secondly, the attention control theory of anxiety has a lot of discussion on inhibition control, which shows the importance of inhibition control ability, and the ability to successfully suppress the interference of irrelevant distractors in inhibition control has always been the focus of discussion in this field. From the previous single-task investigation to the use of dual-task approach, gradually found that working memory load also plays an important role in inhibition control. In addition to the effect of working memory load, the inhibition capacity of individuals with different anxiety levels varies, which may be involved in the overlapping mechanism of processing load contents and distractions.Based on this point, this study used ERP technology to explore the influence of working memory load on cognitive control of trait anxiety individuals, and operated on different levels of working memory load,as well as the correlation between load content and interference processing in cognitive control tasks. It was mainly divided into single-task(Stroop task only)experiment and dual-task(working memory load and Stroop task). The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.From the aspect of different levels of working memory load, the interference effect of Stroop was significantly decreased in individuals with high and low trait anxiety in the dual-task,that is,the difference of the average response time between the inconsistent type and the consistent type decreased with the increase of working memory load.2.From the aspect of the differences in the types of participants with high and low trait anxiety, the Stroop interference effect of individuals with high and low trait anxiety in the dual-task all decreased, and the individuals with high trait anxiety did not show the cognitive inhibition ability weakened with the increase of work ing memory load, but maintained similar performance of low trait anxious individuals.3.In individuals with high trait anxiety, from the aspect of ERP,with the increase of working memory load, the average amplitude of N1 component associated with early selective attention decreased in the occipital region, while the average amplitude of N2 component associated with conflict decreased.4.From the aspect of ERP components, with the increase of working memory load,it has different characteristics of time process.
