also a milestone in the history of Chinese children’s literature.With the liberating of mankind,"children" which was considered as a unique life stage received unprecedented attention.The wrong concept of children in feudal times not only restrained the development of children,but also caused the loss of Chinese children’s literature.With the discovery of children,writers in the May 4th movement realized the independent personality and spiritual value of children.The writers were committed to writing the stories of children’s daily life and spiritual world.The May 4th movement gave birth to children’s literature in modern sense.The 1920s was a special period of rapid growth of Chinese children’s literature.May 4th writers actively devoted themselves to the construction of children’s literature,bringing a harvest of translation,creation and theory to children’s literature.This essay aims to study on the children’s literature in the Monthly Novel(1921-1931),taking the Monthly novel as an example to summarize the pathways of Chinese children’s literature in the 1920s and objectively evaluates the achievements and shortcomings of the construction of children’s literature in the May 4th movement from aesthetic,ideological and emotional perspectives.Furthermore,it also discusses how the children’s literature in the May 4th movement affect the creation of contemporary children’s literature.The introduction part summarizes the research of the May 4th children’s literature and children’s literature in the Monthly Novel and the development of the concept of "children’s literature".This essay includes three chapters.The first chapter discusses the influence of foreign children’s literature in the Monthly Novel by using comparative methods and combining with the psychology of fairy tales.The images of children influenced the creation of Chinese children’s literature.The abundant animal literature,including animal novels,animal biographies,fables and fairy tales,were also introduced to China.The writers attached great importance to the relationship between children and nature,which opened up the theme space of modern children’s literature.The second chapter explores the aesthetic style and ideological implications of the children’s literature in the Monthly Novel by combining with psychology,narratology,myth-archetypal criticism and other relevant theories.May 4th writers studied and imitated foreign children’s literature and also rooted in the cultural tradition.They cared for children’s growth and loneliness,girls’ living conditions and separation and death in children’s life.The third chapter mainly summarizes the achievements and shortcomings of the May 4th children’s literature from aesthetic,ideological and emotional aspects.The May 4th children’s literature not only focused on the liberation of children’s individuality,but also had a social impact.In the ideological dimension,this essay discusses the effects of the May 4th children’s literature on the contemporary literature.The May 4th children’s literature writers tried their best to care for children and had a broad vision of human culture,which provides reference to exploration of children’s literature’s theme.In the aspect of emotion,the May 4th children’s literature expressed deep feeling for love,sought and defended the eternal value of human beings such as sympathy,understanding,tolerance,compassion and kindness,which made the creation of children’s literature transcend class,nation,country and era.It enriched the connotation of "love" in traditional Confucian culture.Different from the description of love in the works in 1949-1966 and the 21st century.May 4th children’s literature confirmed its value and significance in the contemporary society by telling the stories of love and educating children how to love.This has become the most precious spiritual legacy of the May 4th children’s literature.Innovation of this essay lies in:study on the influence of foreign children’s literature in the Monthly Novel from the perspective of "image" and "theme".At the same time,the author has some views on the modernity of these images and themes.Second,try to discuss the inner tension of creation of children’s literature in the Monthly Novel from a historical perspective,and try to discuss the May 4th literary tradition is inclusive,diversity and complexity.At the same time,the author interprets the value of folk literature in children’s literature from the perspective of psychology,and finds the uniqueness of "myth" in children’s literature’s creation in the May 4th period from the first-hand materials.This essay tries to analyze the reason why children’s literature in May 4th movement has become an important spiritual coordinate in the history of Chinese children’s literature.From the standpoint of history,aesthetics and humanity,and from an open and inclusive perspective,this essay retrospectively explores the development of children’s literature in May 4th,1949-1966 and 21th century.Try to make a historical dialogue and comparison and find out the complexity of children’s literature in each period.And from the aspect of person’s ideal multidimensional development,to expound and summarize various periods of children’s literature.People are both national and global.This opinion may do help
