| The phenomenon of classroom silence has run through the English classroom.In the fundamental education,the influence on the senior high school English classroom is evident.At present,in high school English classrooms,students are not enthusiastic about classroom participation.Whenever the English teacher asks questions,most of students will bow their heads silently,and avoiding the teacher’s eye contact.At the beginning of class discussion,students also participated passively and failed to join.The silence phenomenon in the English class in senior high school has always troubled the front-line English teachers,and classrooms are a crucial place for English teachers to communicate with students.When conducting classroom activities,students don’t answer questions from teachers or cooperate with other student’s classroom discussion.The lack of communication and interaction between teachers and students is called classroom silence.According to the function of classroom silence,Chinese scholars divided it into positive silence and negative silence.But this research focused on the phenomenon of negative classroom silence.In this negative classroom atmosphere,not only affect students’ English learning acquisition,but also affect the teachers’ teaching mood,and teaching effect is greatly reduced.In order to break the silence phenomenon in the English class in senior high school,we should not only find out the original causes to propose the related solution,but also need teachers and students to work together to overcome them.This research based on classroom silence at home and abroad,guided by output theory,interactive hypothesis and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,this study analyzed the current situation of silence in English classroom and find out the solution to reshapes the positive and active atmosphere of senior high school English classroom.This study used three research methods,Questionnaire,Classroom observation and Interview.In order to research the silence phenomenon in the English class insenior high school,the causes and replied measures deeply.The subjects selected 200 students and 5 English teachers in four parallel classes in the first grade of of Yan’ an high school.Questionnaire is used to investigate the reasons why students remain silent in senior high school English class.Classroom observation aims to study the current situation of English classroom in the current senior high school and the real reaction of teachers and students in the classroom.Interview is used to explore the impact of classroom silence on senior high school students’ English learning and to provide suggestions for teachers to deal with it.The conclusion of the study is that the current silence phenomenon in the English class in senior high school is obviously.The emergence of silence in the English classroom in senior high school is influenced by the external environment,teachers,students and so on,the external factors mainly include the influence of traditional Chinese culture and the classroom environment of the students’ classes,the teacher factors mainly include the teaching methods,the ability of questioning,the evaluation of students and handling of classroom interpersonal relationships,the student factors include personal character,knowledge ability,learning habits,learning motivation and learning interest.This study provides targeted suggestions based on various aspects of the causes of negative silence in senior high school English classrooms.When the phenomenon of silence occurs in English classrooms,teachers usually start from the three aspects of environment,teachers,and students,and take effective measures.Teachers and students work together to break the silence in English classrooms and remodel the active classrooms atmosphere.The study will help senior high school English teachers overcome the phenomenon of classroom silence to provide feasible suggestions,restore the classroom atmosphere,mobilize students’ enthusiasm,and help students regain their interest in English learning. |
