As one of the most important language skills in English learning,English reading occupies a large proportion in both practical application and teaching examination.The general high school English curriculum standard(2017 edition)proposes to cultivate the students' key competencies,and the language ability is an important basic ability in key competencies,at the same time,it is also the basis for cultivating other consciousness and character.But at present,how to improve students' reading ability in English teaching while cultivating students' key competencies has become the focus of research.Based on the key competencies of English,this research will study the cultivation of middle school students' language competence in high school English reading teaching and explore the practice of language competence in high school English teaching.This study will focus on the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of language competence in high school students' English reading?(2)Can English Reading Teaching Design from the Perspective of Key Competencies Improve Students' Language Ability?(3)How to carry out the cultivation of students' language competence in English reading teaching in senior high school based on discourse?By looking up the relevant literature at home and abroad,this study get the research and theories into shape about key competencies' language competence and high school English reading teaching.In this study,48 students in a class of the second grade of a senior high school in Harbin were selected as the research objects,and the teaching experiment of one semester was carried out by combining quantitative and qualitative research method,and the data were collected by reading test,issuing preand post-test questionnaire,semi-structured interview with teachers,and the data were analyzed by SPSS after the experiment.The research shows that: firstly,after a semester of experiments,students' understanding and recognition of the key competencies language competence has been improved,and the language competence in English reading has been improved obviously;secondly,the design of English reading teaching from the perspective of key competencies can effectively improve students' language competence andenhance their interest in reading.Finally,teachers should pay special attention to developing students' language skills based on discourse,making good use of multi-modal discourse to cultivate students' language skills,and integrate the requirements of language skills into different teaching design.This study has some reference significance for the application of key competencies in senior high school English reading teaching,but there are also some limitations,such as small sample size,short experimental period,insufficient data searching and so on.I hope to make a step-by-step improvement in future research.
