At present, mindfulness is a hotspot in psychological research.Mindfulness is an effective tool that enables people to effectively inhibit negative emotions.General envy,as a typical negative emotion, could also be divided into benign/malicious envy. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is to explore how mindfulness affects envy(general envy and benign/malicious envy)based on the mindfulness reperceiving model. This paper consists of two series of studies. The first series includes three studies(Study 1,Study 2,and Study 3).It mainly explores the mechanism of psychological resilience in mindfulness inhibiting general envy.Meanwhile, from the perspective of anti adversity resources of positive psychology, the current study revealed the mediating mechanism of psychological resilience and protective factors--internal locus of control / self-esteem between mindfulness and general envy.Specifically,Study 1 and Study 2 used cross-sectional data and longitudinal tracking data, respectively,to explore the immediate and time-delay effects of psychological resilience in promoting the inhibitory effect of mindfulness on general envy. The results suggested that the reason why mindfulness inhibits general envy is that mindfulness reperceiving increases the individual's level of psychological resilience and thus inhibits general envy.On this basis,Study 3 further extended the mechanism of psychological resilience and its two protective factors, internal locus of control and self-esteem,to enhance the inhibitory effect of mindfulness on general envy. The results indicated that mindfulness indirectly inhibits general envy by improving psychological resilience and self-esteem.It is worth noting that mindfulness can also inhibit general envy by improving the two protective factors of psychological resilience--internal locus of control / self-esteem.The second series of studies also includes three studies(Study 4,Study 5,and Study 6).Based on the general envy's position of differentiation into two forms of benign/malicious envy, this study explores how psychological resilience can affect mindfulness and benign/malicious envy.Specifically,Studies 4 and 5 usedcross-section data and longitudinal tracking data to explore the immediate and delayed action mechanisms of psychological resilience in the link between mindfulness and benign/malicious envy.As a result,it was found that mindfulness can directly inhibit malicious envy. But the link with benign envy is not significant.Interestingly, the results of the mediation analysis showed that mindfulness can inhibit malicious envy and promote benign envy by increasing the level of psychological resilience. On this basis,Study 6 further explored the psychological resilience and its two protective factors, internal locus of control and self-esteem,which play a mediating role in the link between mindfulness and benign/malicious envy.It was found that the reason why mindfulness can inhibit malicious envy and promote benign envy is because mindfulness reperceiving increases the individual's psychological resilience level and two protective factors of psychological resilience-internal locus of control and self-esteem,thereby inhibiting malicious envy and promoting benign envy. For the first time, this study systematically revealed the link between mindfulness and envy and the role of psychological resilience in it.Its theoretical significance lies not only in extending the mindfulness reperceiving model, but also for the first time using this model for the envy generated by social comparison, and also making a positive contribution to the expansion of social comparison theory. In addition, the practical significance of this series of studies lies in that from the perspective of positive psychology,it is revealed that the mindfulness of individuals can be suppressed from the perspective of training mindfulness.Meanwhile,it is also possible to enhance the inhibitory effect of mindfulness on envy by training individual's psychological resilience and its protective factors internal locus of control/ self-esteem.
