The Influence Of Envy On Aggression

Envy is the emotion we can often feel.In real life,people always mention others' kids,which arouses envy.However,envy,as an emotion which is not recognized by our society,can be said to be one of the most hidden and widespread emotions.In the past,researchers think that envy makes people full of hostility,resentment and negative emotions,but later it is found that all of these are main characteristics of envy.Besides,envy enables people to improve themselves,which is also called “benign envy”.With the deepening of researches,researchers pay more and more attention to malicious envy and benign envy respectively,and have realized some achievements.But some problems need to be further studied.Many methods have been used to arouse envy.And explicit and implicit measures have been adopted for the influence of envy on aggression,which is of important theoretical and practical values.On the one hand,the adoption of implicit aggression test helps to improve and perfect the methods to arouse envy.On the other hand,it can overcome drawbacks of traditional explicit questionnaires and be an more effective way to explore the influence of envy.The thesis attempts to study the influence of envy on implicit aggression through two experiments.The first experiment is to prove that envy arouses aggression.Envy,aroused through recollection association and real situation methods,is assessed to finish questionnaires on explicit aggression.As a result,the explicit aggression of malicious envy in recollection association group ranks first top and there is no difference between benign envy and the control group;envy is aroused effectively in real situation group,whose result is in accordance with that of recollection association group.The purpose of the second experiment is to explore the implicit aggression of benign envy.Based on the first experiment,the second experiment change the measure of aggression into implicit association test for implicit aggression.Just like the first experiment,envy is still aroused through recollection association and real situation methods to balance the differences of methods,and then assessed to finish implicit association test.The experiment proves that no matter which method is adopted,benign envy can arouse implicit aggression to some extent.
