The Influence Of Social Norms And Dispositional Empathy With Nature On Pro-environmental Behavior

Environmental problems have become a major problem in the world,and promoting individual pro-environmental behavior is an effective way to help improve and solve environmental problems.The purpose of this study is to explore the multidimensional nature of pro-environmental behavior and its internal and external influencing factors.In study 1,questionnaire measurement and structural equation modeling were used to explore pro-environment behavior.The results showed that pro-environment behavior included three dimensions,not a single structure.In study 2,2(social norms hint: yes,no)× 2(dispositional empathy with nature: high,low)were used to design the experiment between subjects,which required the subjects to self-report their intention levels of different dimensions of pro-environmental behavior.It was found that both social norms and dispositional empathy with nature affected individuals' pro-environmental behavior intentions.In study 3,field experiments were conducted to explore the influence of social norms and dispositional empathy with nature on the practice of pro-environment behavior in different dimensions,and it was found that the practice of pro-environment behavior was mainly influenced by dispositional empathy with nature.The results of this study show that pro-environmental behavior is multidimensional.Both social norms and natural empathic traits can enhance an individual's pro-environmental behavior,but they do so in different ways.Social norms affect individuals' intentions of pro-environment behavior mainly as an external reference,while dispositional empathy with nature,as an internal factor,promotes individuals to consciously carry out pro-environment behavior while forming pro-environment consciousness.Therefore,it is important to promote the solution of environmental problems and promote the individual's pro-environment behavior to cultivate the individual's dispositional empathy with nature.On the other hand,we can reasonably set up social norms to guide people's pro-environment behavior intention.
